MyGuineaPigPals
Teenage Guinea Pig
Hello everyone,
So I found these cage fresh granules and no one here really had much experience of them and reviews online were pretty vague so I thought I would try them.
They are a powdery texture like sand and they have a strong smell like very strong baby powder products.
Obvious concerns were the ingredients and the risk of breathing difficulties for the piggies.
However from the ingredients they look pretty natural, there are no chemicals and everything appears to be mineral based so looking good so far.
I tend to use newspaper and farm/meadow hay as bedding for my cage so I put the granules under the newspaper after my last deep clean - i figured this way it would be less likely they would try and eat it or breathe it in.
My boys tend to pee everywhere in their cage but i focussed attention on their worst places
And my two boys who have a divide tend to pee at the divide and scent mark like crazy so I paid most attention to this border as well.
So how do i feel about it over a week later of using them:
All I can say is I actually like them - I definitely put WAY to much in their cage the first time and it only needs a fine sprinkling.
The pee smell didn't carry across the room like it used to when they peed, and my home smelt of babies instead of farm which made a change. (mainly because i put to much in at first)
The piggies seem to feel less self conscious about their filthy habits as well!
As for my scent marking boys, well I am very impressed - not only do they seem to have given up scent marking as the powder smell over powered their own (oops my fault again) but they seem to have calmed down too except a bit of bar chewing at each other.
I have yet to notice any breathing issues so they appear to be fine, and when it comes to cleaning it is very easy to do, I simply brush it up with a dust pan and brush along with the newspaper and hay and give the correx a good clean underneath as usual.
So in conclusion I am very pleased with this product and will most likely keep using it for my boys until I have any personal experience that puts me off! I would give it a good 4 out of 5 stars! and I will be trying a little bit in my fancy mice cage next!
i hope this helps some of you who are not fleece users like myself
Thanks for reading
