Gingerspider
Junior Guinea Pig
This week we lost our gorgeous young buck, Martin. He was only 3 but those 3 years gave us so much love and joy.
Back when I was ignorant, I fell in love with Martin at a well known pet store. His hair was absolutely ridiculous and he just melted my heart, so back home he came with his buddy Kurt. At first Martin was a very skittish piggy. He always hid from us and picked on Kurt. We bonded much more with his buddy until we tragically lost him at only 1 years old. Martin's reaction that day was to popcorn and zoomy like I've never seen before. I thought he was being awful at the time. As the days past, something unusual happened...Martin seemed to entirely change his personality. His fear aggression melted, he became very friendly and inquisitive and we fell in love with him all over again. Over the last two years he's just grown sweeter and sweeter, with his silly hair, noises and cheeky personality. He loved nothing more than playing chase with his guinea daddy during floor time. Earlier this year, he started squealing when going to the toilet. We dutifully took him to the vets, time and time again over the months, with him recovering, squealing again, then being fine and so on. This week we finally got him in to see a specialist for what we thought would be a check up. Guinea dad brought him along and we laughed about it being a lads road trip. Martin was on his back legs wheaking for breakfast and doing his trademark flat up and down popcorns He had some sedation for his x-ray and whilst he was under they saw lots of bladder stones and recommended surgery. We knew there was a risk but he was an otherwise healthy young pig and we were reassured that he was in the best place. Unfortunately we had some communication issues with the vets and had to wait until the next day to hear the absolutely heartbreaking news that he had recovered well from the op but mysteriously passed in the middle of the night
It was a shock and we are both absolutely devastated. We thought he would have at least a few more years with us and it just feels so raw that we won't ever get to cuddle him again or laugh at his silly runs or noises or his stupidly picky eating, or him rumblestrutting if you jangled your keys, or hair cut days, or just generally spending time with such a sweet and lovely boy.
Thank you Martin for all the joy you gave us. I hope you went in peace knowing how much you were loved. Fly high over the rainbow bridge and go kick back with Kurt, with a couple of your fave carrots. Our days feel very dark without you now. Love from Guinea Mummy, Guinea Daddy and your roomy Len x
