I'm really interested in doing something i enjoy with my life. I was looking at the course on the CCT website and was wondering what you can actually do after you complete and pass them.

I've been looking on the internet and have come to a dead end. Obviously you cant perform operations etc so would you work in a vets practise or work alone and refer operations to a vet.

I'm sorry if i seem like an idiot but i cant find any information. Is anyone doing it at the moment and has anyone completed it and gone on to other things?

Really appreciate any help :)

pm Laura(CCC4) she is into all things piggy and knows vedra at CCT quite well and is also planning to become a rodentologist she she may have some tips for you xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi

I'm thinking about doing the course and perhaps becoming a rodentologist, can anyone give advice.

Jaye.

I'm doing the course at the moment - mainly because I just wanted to know a bit more about my piggies. I'm now thinking that I would like to be a rodentologist or a vet nurse - I think I'll see how I get on with the course first though (only just got the coursework).

Did you get a ring binder or the newest textbook, Suzanne? I have the old ring-binder and am wondering what the newly printed versions are like!

Before you enrol on the G-BAR course to train as a rodentologist, you have to complete the RHA (Rodent Health Advisor) course first. This is the starting block that introduces you to guinea pig medical care.

I've found the RHA coursework easy enough - it's mostly just reading. I test myself a fair bit, I'm not sure if the review questions are in the new coursework but I found they are a good way to test what you have learnt. The residential is the main part of the course, that is the hands-on experience and you have the chance to question and learn from Vedra.

As for what happens after you qualify as a rodentologist, I know of some people who work/volunteer alongside vets. The most usual option is usually to set up an "umbrella clinic" of the CCT - your own little piggie health clinic. Myself, I plan to do a bit of everything! Health clinic, grooming, holiday boarding, advising and educating the public etc. To work alongside a vet and to help inside a rescue would be the ultimate dream, really.

It is a ring binder Laura, but it's dated July 2009 so is the newest version as far as I know xx
