Bedding Dilemma

I am hoping to get two Guinea pigs next month and I'm just trying to buy everything they need beforehand like the cage and toys and other things but I'm stuck on what bedding to use. I have asthma so wood shavings can sometimes be too dusty for me and carefresh is quite expensive even with my discount so I'm not sure what other options I have
 
Guinea pigs like using hay as bedding, but you must top it up quite often as they like to eat it as well x
I would reccomend not using straw as it can harm the piggies! X a few off us here use fleece as bedding, this can be easily washed, is inexpensive, reusable and super soft x

There is fitch but seems to be out of stock or finacard. You might be ok with them.Have you been round piggies to check they won't set off your asthma.I would be tempted to see if I could borrow some for a few days.The hay may set you off and they have to have that. Do you have a cage yet
 
I work with small animals so the actual animal doesn't make my asthma worse because I can just go and wash my hands after and I'm fine its just when I'm cleaning them out that i start to sneeze or wheeze
 
I use vetbed. It is hypoallergenic, warm in winter and very comfortable. Fleece is good too.
 
i think finacard is your best bet :-) I personally do not like either vet bed of fleece
 
you could maybe get some paper masks for cleaning out. The sawdust starts to get to my son on hamster clean up day too
 
I hadn't thought about paper masks. I'll have to buy some just in case whatever I buy is dusty. Thanks
 
I have been using Aubiose for a few months now, and both humans and piggies get on well with it. I buy a HUGE bale from a local farm/equestrian shop for £10.50, and because it is so economical we don't need to be skimpy with it. I really like that the top layer seems to stay dry and the wee soaks through to the bottom.
 
I too love aubiose. Its like chips of woid but made from hemp. As the pieces are bigger there is no dust.

They have hay too and grass very spoilt guinea pigs. Found straw is good for them to sleep on . They have not had any illnesses since I put them on straw to sleep on.They have fitch on the base too. I know everyone says it is bad but had mine on straw for a year now to sleep on and they are fine.
