I had up for a while for my guinea pig this hay area that he would go into and eat but he would never lay or sleep in. I had another area set up where if he wants to lay down or sleep it was separate

I switched it up a bit and have two smaller containers with hay and the same setup for the sleeping but since I've done this I noticed that my my guinea pig is laying down and hanging out where he's peeing and eating in which I know is usually normal but he wasn't doing that in the other setup so just wondering maybe I guess why or if that's happened before? I almost want to switch back because it at least seemed more sanitary when he wasn't doing that but yeah ok thanks!

Piggies poop and pee everywhere, especially where they spend most of their time (around food)
As long as you are spot cleaning in the morning and night, and changing their entire bedding at least once a week, your pigs will be fine!

If he’s happy, I wouldn’t worry too much.
I find when I change cage layouts, my pigs find a new favourite spot, it just so happens that where they are most comfortable (sleeping etc.) is where most of the poops will be!
Changing up their cage layout is also important to help enrich them and give them something new to explore, so you may find he changes his mind on his “favourites” often.

I agree - you don’t need to worry. Just make sure the cage is kept clean.

Although, in some boar pairs changing the cage layout can cause territory problems and bickering so some need their cage to remain exactly the same all the time. It’s going to depend on the pair!
