Very new to this forum but have been enjoying reading lots of stuff. I had no idea people used things like fleece and shredded cardboard as bedding!

We have always just lined the floor of the hutch with newspaper and then covered with wood shavings. Am I missing a trick? What do you all do? Is there something easier / better?

Thanks.

i used to use wood shavings with hay on top now i use newspaper with hay on top i find it cheaper less messy easier to clean and i believe healthier for my piggies

i currently use newpaper with megazorb but it does get stuck in my girls bits so find myself pulling it out of them. xx

i use newspaper and hay, easy to just roll up and throw away, and quicker to clean everybody too :)

Fleece and newspaper here too with a power washing of the cages once a month and general clean of the cage once a week with soapy water. :)

I'm using pine bedding right now, he seems to like it a lot............I want to try that care fresh though..............

I use newspaper, aubiose and a pile of hay in the corner. In my bottom cages I have vetbed at the front so that all the hay etc doent get dragged out on the floor when they come out for their exercise.

I line my cage with newspaper and for the bottom level I use Carefresh (or something of that sort, not always carefresh brand) and for the upper level I use a towel with daily poop checks (bedding just gets through the bars on the cage and makes a mess on my floor)

I used to use pine but I like carefresh much more...it seems momre absorbant and I think it smells better :]

i used to use newspaper with wood shavings on top the hay on top .

i now use easi bed which is due to 2 of my boars sneezing and them getting sore feet with the shavings. ive not seen it on here but its fab i get a bale of compressed stuff for 3.50 which is cheaper than the wood shavings and i dont have to put newspaper down.

since i got my shelti i was given some vet bed which i put him on and he loves. and as he is inside it makes it easier and less smelly lol

my origianl plan was to put all my piggies on fleece or vet bed but i have 6 boars outside who REFUSED to even accomadate it lol funny old things they are xx

I've recently moved onto vetbed, having discovered it through this forum and used it for a sickly piggie. I have a 6' x 4' run in the garage with an upstairs that they never use. Half of it is vetbed and newspaper, the other half bare concrete - I like to think that helps keep their claws worn down. I feed hay out of mangers over the concrete area and sweep up the loose bits into a mound which they like to slump on. I previously used shavings and wood pellets, which was easy to muck out, but I found I ended up with tons of the stuff to dispose of! The vetbed simply shakes out over the grass (I'm hoping the droppings will break down naturally and act like fertiliser) and then it goes through the washing machine. So far the piggies like it and the washing machine seems to be coping well - although I do worry about the filter getting blocked as I haven't yet figured out how to clean it! :-\ :-\. Don't seem to have any problem with hair getting on other clothes.
