everywhere you read you are told not to give too much spinach to piggies as it is related to kidney/bladder stones. is it the same for beetroot? i had kidney stones (very very painful i might add) and was advised to avoid certain food because of it. spinach and beetroot were high on the list. does that mean that beetroot can cause them in pigs too? i have never given it to my pigs but it would be interesting to know as i have never heard anyone mention it before.

No, beetroot is great for helping to stop the formation of bladder stones, I'm not saying if you feed beetroot your pig will never get a stone but it can help. Foods like spinach and parsley are high in calcium and this build uo can cause stones to form. The acidicness of beetroot helps to break down/absorb this calcium. I was told about this for the first time last year by a rescue and was interested to try it after losing a piggie to a bladder stone 2 years prior. So I feed a few slices once a week or so and so far so good.
Just chop off the root and the top and slice however you like. Never feed the leaves, they're toxic.
Asda do a salad bag called bistro salad that has shredded/grated beetroot in it if you want to test them with it before buying a bunch of beetroot :)
