My name is Michele and my 19 year old daughter gave my 9 year old daughter two piggies for her b.day last January. They are both female and just as sweet as they can be. However, we do not know much about how to properly care for them and she has lost interest in doing so. She loves them, but we've discussed it and feel that it would be best for them to go to a home where someone more experienced with the kind of care they need and time to provide it is more readily available. Bella has started losing weight and her black hair (she's short hair/black and white) has started turning gray/brownish. They both seem to be eating and drinking as usual. Gracie was a bit bigger and I think a lil older when we got them and she is more of a cream and white short hair. We were told they were both young pigs when we got them in Jan, but I honestly have no clue how hold they really are. We have them in a nice new cage and are not wanting anything in return for them except a promise that someone will love and take care of them and give them the kind of life they deserve. We live in Fort Worth area (North Richland Hills) and would love to hear from you if you're interested. Have a blessed day.

Hi and welcome.

I am sorry about your decision. Here is a link to a recommendable guinea pig rescue (not a shelter) in Texas; I don't know whether it is within your reach. http://www.guinealynx.info/rescue_organizations.html#TX

Please be aware that if you advertise on freeads like petfinder, you need to home check and make personally sure that any new owners really are and have what they say. There have been sadly some very unfortunate experiences. You may also be able to find more rescues local to you on petfinder.

Id love to offer these little ones a home but i think in the best interest of the guineapigs you should take them to a rehoming centre or rescue such as the rspca. The fact one has lost weight could be a sign of illness, bullying, or old age. Id take them to a rescue centre who can give them the vetinary treatment and care they need. I would also discuss with your daughters that taking on a pet is a huge responsibility and animals such as guineapigs can live up to 8 years old so if you arent in it for the long haul you shouldnt really be having pets. Try googling rescue centres in your area and i hope you find them a safe and loving home. Until then ensure your piggys are getting plenty of hay and vegetables to keep them healthy and the thin piggy could really do with a visit to the vet asap as it isnt really fair to hand over an ill pig to a rescue, if for whatever reason this is a must please inform the rescue of your piggys weightloss etc so they can quarantine and treat it accordingly. I wish you luck in rehoming your piggys and i think if your daughter has lost interest you are doing the right thing for the sake of the piggys. I hope my post hasnt come across as a lecture as it was not intended in that way . Take care love me and ditto x

Thank you two very much for your thoughts/advice. I completely understand what you are saying and you're absolutely right. We've all had that talk and that is why we've decided to re-home them to someone that would give them the attention they need. They've had hampsters for years and we have dogs and a cat, but they just didn't realize what they were getting into with the piggies. They really are very sweet babies though and I don't want either one of them to suffer or be sick. We will take Bella in and find out if there is anything wrong, I'm thinking from what I've read it may be her teeth needing to be cut. I just have so many expenses right now with grandbabies with my son and daughter in law and then college and senior year expenses with my two older daughters and then my 9 year old as well......don't get me wrong...we'll make it a priority to get them checked and make sure they're healthy.....we just don't wish to continue to keep them so these expenses keep accuring.

I did look up the rescue website and I think it may be too far, but I'll check with my husband to be sure....thanks again.....have a blessed rest of the week. ;)
