Hello we sadly lost our lovely boy cookie in may. He has left his brother waffle who appears to be doing ok. We took him to a local charity to find a friend and they tried him with three other males but waffle was too dominant and aggressive. He is a big boy and the only thing they could suggest was getting a new baby boy but I'm not sure he would even settle with a new baby or not sit on it causing harm. Has anyone else struggled to find a companion?

So sorry you lost Cookie x
Have you thought about having him neutered and bonded with a sow? if you can find a good experienced guinea pig vet and your boy is healthy that can be a great option

I’m sorry for your loss.

May I ask how old Waffle is? Sometimes it takes several tries before you can find him a friend he likes. So I would try with other rescues and see. You should contact them as there’s usually a waiting list and they don’t put singletons on their website.

You can try with a baby. Just be aware that acceptance can occur and is later thrown in the air when the big hits his teens. Having said that, it’s all down to compatibility so essentially you can’t know until you try.

Hope you can find him a friend soon.

Thanks for your answer we were devestated about cookie. Waffle is just under 3 now. I have contacted all local charities but alot of them are saying they only pair up boards with sows. I'll keep trying tho. He was always mega dominant with his brother.

Yes, some rescues won’t attempt boar bonding, which is a shame but that is their policy to make.
Would you consider having him neutered and once he is six week post op safe, then finding a sow for him.

I agree with others about consider neutering and bonding with sows.
I have a neutered boar who is living a dream life with his wife ( he started with 3 but we’re down to a single sow now)
