Hi we are new to the guinea pig forum. I am so very sorry for your loss of beautiful Honey, it really is so very hard.
I was wondering what decision you made about a new companion?
Our beautiful boy cloud passed away a few days ago had a sudden seizure Vets were great but couldn't save him, we have sent him for cremation and I am sure when he is home will feel better.
As for our bereaved piggy Elmo he is eating and drinking well, Popcorn when we come into the room but is talking and not getting a response then going back into his bed and looking very sad. Did you decide to pair with a similar age?
We are very torn as to whether to pair with a similar age boar or a young one. Unfortunately no rescue centre if offering a bonding service near us and I worry the wait will make Elmo feel more lonely. Would love to hear your journey and decision made. Hope your remembering the lovely times with Honey x

I'm sorry for your loss.
It is better to start your own thread so you can receive individual attention and so your post won’t get lost in other replies.
A bond comes down to character compatibility rather than age. A young/younger boar can be accepted as they are less likely to challenge the hierarchy, but it’s not a guarantee of what will happen once a youngster hits his teens.
(you also haven’t said how old your piggy is for us to be able to gauge your situation).

Hi thank you for your reply, apologies I'm not very tech savvy to create a thread... Il ask my partner when he finishes work. Elmo is 11 months old so it was a very big shock for us and him. Elmo is very calm and chatty but he's definitely looking a bit sad in his eyes. Ideally if it was an older boar he would be an indoor piggy as I don't think it's right to adopt one that's used to also being outside Elmo and cloud have always been in the home with us or at my mum's when we went on holiday for the week.
Thank you again 😊

To create your own thread, there is a button which says ‘post thread‘ at the top. Choose the correct forum section and then go ahead and make your post. It just means your posts aren’t getting tangled up with somebody else’s and you can receive individual attention. I will have this post moved to its own new thread for you.

As Elmo is a teenager himself (albeit an older teenager), then bonding is at a harder time - not impossible (boars can be bonded and rebonded at any age) but harder due to his hormones. At his age, neutering him, having the six weeks post op wait and bonding him with a sow might have a better chance of success.
If you do choose to bond with another boar (of any age) and without the ability to date him at a rescue, then ensuring you have a plan b for living arrangements if bonding fails (ie separate side by side cages) is a good idea
