Hello everyone,

Bertie is now in his forever sleep. He’d been ill with URI since December, and after his brave fight and exhausting all his treatment options, he was helped over the rainbow. He was tired, I could see he was ready to go, so rather than let him suffer, it was the kindest thing for him.

Bertie was a real unique character. He was the most ‘un-guinea pig’ guinea pig I’ve ever met. He was headstrong, very clever, very lazy, and had a way of really communicating to humans what he wanted. If he was too lazy to go and get his leaves, he’d tell you exactly where he wanted them. If he didn’t want his medicine, he’d struggle and then dribble it out of the side of his mouth. If there was section of living room blocked off from piggies, he’d find a way to get around it. He always explored new areas with his ‘parameter check’, circling the edges counter-clockwise until he’d got the lay of the land. It was hilarious to watch him.

He did have a few run-ins with vets. I’d have to warn him before the appointment to behave, but he never would. One vet visit that comes to mind was when he pooped in both the vet and the vet nurses pockets. The vet was laughing at what had happened to the vet nurse until she realised he’d done the same to her. Needless to say he was pleased with his efforts.

Bertie was a people pig. He loved cuddles. He would cuddle for ages. He loved to snuggle against my neck. He was such a relaxed boy, his nickname was melting pig, because he was just like liquid he was so relaxed during cuddles. He liked cuddles from anyone and would happily go to sleep in anyone’s arms.

I had Bertie for 6 years. He was about 4 months old when I adopted him. He and his 2 brothers were found abandoned, and a kind person took them to a rescue where I heard their story. He’ll be joined at the rainbow bridge by Billy and Ben, who will be happy to see him. They loved him so much. He was less impressed with them, but I’m sure at the rainbow bridge they’ll all be having their brother fun like they used to.

Sleep tight Bertie, you’ve really earned that rest buddy.

Hi

I am very sorry that you had to make that decision but I whould have done the same under those circumstances and spared the sharp end as he was coming up to it.

Your gorgeous boy with his expressive face will always live on in your heart and in your memories.

I’m sorry this happened. Popcorn free and enjoy your snacks at the Bridge, little Bertie! What a handsome fella. Love the mohawk!
