my bertie has recently gone back in with his mum and sister (after being away for aaages, and having the snip) and today i noticed his hair, which used to be long and gorgeous, is now really short! :o How did this happen? could the others have eaten it 98) or is it stress? is maulting, and the new hairs haven't grown long yet? help, it seems sooooo FREAKY xx0

OoOoh it maybe due to the weather or stress do you have any before and after piccies :D we can see

it is possible that his cage mate are eating it. It is called barbering and I have seen some of my piggies doing this is the past. As far as I know it's nothing to worry about though.

My Peter Gurney pig book says:

"barbering is the practice whereby guinea pigs chew their own hair or one anothers. often one particular adult guinea pig will do this for a certain period of time to its companions and then stop. only once have i known a guinea pig to repeat this bahaviour later in life. amazingly, although they ingest a great deal of hair, they do not appear to suffer from hair balls."

doesnt sound like its something to worry about.

Thats what it sounds like to me too, maybe mummy piggy giving her boy a haircut ;D
As long as he has no bald patches or it doesn`t look sore, it probably is that. I would watch for a while and see if thats what is happening ;)

ok thanks! PHEWWW! i'll try and get an after pic tomorrow thanks! it just seemed weird xx0 but at least there's nothing to worry about. :)
