What is the best foods to feed my pregnant piggies. At the minute she has unlimited hay and excel nuggets with hand full of Alfalfa. Veg this week is carrot, cabbage, cucumber and dandelions from the garden. What's best as like to change the veg each week so they not always having the same thing x

Basically, you feed a normal good diet with plenty of meadow or timothy hay with some alfalfa hay added (about a handful), a normal or only slightly larger amount of mixed fresh veg that includes a daily double potion of a high vitamin C veg or herb (like two slices of pepper instead of one or more broccoli, or a few sprigs of fresh coriander), and not more than a maximum of 40g of pellets per day, rather a bit less. Too much pellets can cause the pups to grow too large and cause problems at birth; pregnancy toxaemia (blood poisoning) is also more frequent with sows on a high pellet diet. Do not overfeed your mummy to be!

Please be aware that the additional amounts of calcium and vitamin C needed are actually not all that big. Sows on a normal good diet have no problems with giving birth to perfectly healthy babies!

It's perhaps best to ask in the Pregnancy and Labour section of the forum as that's where the most knowledgeable people on the subject will be reading posts. From what I've read it's advised not to feed unlimited pellets during pregnancy as it can result in larger babies which can cause birth difficulties (stick to the manufacturers recommendations), it is advised to feed unlimited once the babies are born though. As for the rest it sounds like you've got it covered, here is a list of different veggies you can feed - http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?42-Guinea-Pig-Shopping-List. It is on the list but do NOT feed parsley to a pregnant pig because it can cause them to go into labour. This thread is useful for explaining the balance of what to give them - http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/...sphorus-Ratios-Explained-Diet-Advice-included.
