Hi :)p

hope I spelt it right lol.. Just curious to know what are the best gnaw blocks people use.. or if people use them... I have no idea where to start.. my lot dont like the petshop treat sticks you hang up.. and they sometimes gnaw their wooden house,.. but not much..

I also provide them with apple branches with leaves on which they occasionally eat yet they dont gnaw the branches...

are piggies meant to gnaw at things... I thought they do due to their teeth constanly growing... or is this just helped with them constantly eating hay it helps wear them down?

I think the most importanat thing to keep teeth in good shape is hay. Lots of hay!

My piggles don't really tend to knaw much either. They'll have a little nibble of their pigloo or wooden house but seem to love destroying cardboard boxes rolleyes

They usually have some crunchy veg each day (carrots and celery being favourite) too, but this is for variety rather than to keep teeth down

Lots of good quality hay is key - up to 80% of the daily intake!

It is far more important to keep the molars (back teeth) in good order, because with healthy teeth, the front teeth wear down against each other. The vast majority of tooth problems is due to overgrown molars and front teeth should only be treated if they are growing at an angle to each other or wear unevenly. Never let your vet clip front teeth "just because they look to long"!

Otherwise, a wooden hut is a good place to vent some destructive feelings on!

I don't give my piggies anything specifically to gnaw on, they just get lots of hay:))
I did buy some gnaw blocks and things but they just ignored them so they were a waste of moneyrolleyes

My only gnaw a little too, a bit on their hutch or wooden run or their little wooden house. I think it's fine to just have the wooden house there in case they feel like gnawing. Other than that, just lots of hay like everyone else said. :)

My JoJo is the only mad chewer of my lot, he has literally destroyed his willow ball whereas the other two boys still have theirs fully intact - I will put a picture on here!

Anyways he seems to like the ball, it is also pretty light so if he chucks it about it's unlikely to hurt him as much as any heavy blocks etc.

A guinea that stayed with me in summer came with a big tree branch as the owner said they liked to gnaw on them, well sadly she managed to poke herself in the eye on one of the twiggy bits of branch and had to go to the vet :-( luckily no lasting damage but it's made me very wary of any bits of tree or those twig things you can get to chew on.

My piggies have a constant supply of hay which they love.
I have a wooden log tunnel (the bendy one) which one of the piggies chews quite a bit and a wood stick treat ball.:):):):)

Yeh my lot do have 2 wooden play houses anyway... they have so much hay everyday anyway and plenty of fresh fruit/veg everyday... I was just curious if they were like hamsters and needed something to gnaw on.. they DO occasionally have a nibble on their wooden houses... but i did end up buying "The Wellness Gnaw Stone".. well a corner of it has been eaten allready.. :)) so if that does get eaten i think i shall buy these.. xx>>>

Thankyou everyone for your advice ^)
