Betsy - Shaking Piggy

Glad to hear she is booked with a vet and that some members have been able to give on maybe what the vet should be looking for. Fingers and paws crossed for Betsy here

Hi. We all here at home. Send you lots love and support. Dig deep guys.
You doing all you can getting her checked asap. xx

I'm glad you've got her going to the vet tomorrow... hope all is well and you get it sorted out for her quickly.

Well Betsy is still around this morning. I picked her up and gave her a good check. She was purring a bit when I stroked her but not as much as normal and she gave me a hard nip too which is very unlike her. Come to think of it she's been a bit more nippy than usual in the last week or so. Normally she gives small affectionate little nips that feel like a little scratch but these ones have been a lot more forceful like it hurts through your clothes so maybe she hasn't been feeling well for the past week and she was trying to tell me. We have a very close bond and I will be completely devasted if I lose her. She is now out in the run with the other 4 bimbling around and eating pellets. She isn't right though. I'll take the camera and show Rachel the vet how her eyes looked after as that may help. I'll let you all know what the vet said when I get back. Hope it isn't terminal!

Huge hugs Jacky! Hoping you get an answer at the vets, sending lots of healing vibes and smooches to the gorgeous Betsy!

Bug hugs to you and Betsy! Fingers, toes and paws are all crossed for you! x:hug:

Good luck at the vets this morning I’ll keep my fingers & paws crossed for you. Let us know how you get on. Huge hugs xx

Hello Betsy.
Your mummy slave is very worried and some of her friends here on forum also.
You be very very brave at the vets l8tr and let's find out what's up with you. It's ok if you nip also. Heidi Cocoa Chloe and now "clanger" all send you lots love.
Mummy Slave you be very brave ok. x

Just out of vets. Rachel didn't think it was neurological as the fit Betsy had didn't sound like that kind of fit. She gave her a really thorough examination including a blood test for diabetes which was negative. She found Betsy has cataracts and is in all probability blind which would account for the nipping more than usual (cos she is frightened). Rachel said that sometimes animals have fits and there is no known reason for it and no symptoms afterwards. So apart from being blind through cataracts Betsy has been given a clean bill of health.:D

Thanks to everyone for your support this forum is an amazing place!

Hope she's on the mend. Would potentially recommend a course of panacur for her. E.cuniculi can cause neurological signs and is one of the leading causes of cataracts (in rabbits) so might be worth considering if she has anymore odd episodes.

Get well soon Betsy.

Glad it’s nothing serious.
Merab, who is also blind with cataracts, says to Betsy - play on it and you’ll get whatever you want!

What did she say about the difference in her eyes?

So am I @Merab's Slave I will tell Betsy that!

The vet said to keep and eye on her and if she has any more episodes of shaking to take her back and they will see what they can do. Hopefully it was just a one off.

Oh bless.. Course she will bite if struggling to see.
Has she any sight. xx
Not sure. She may have a bit of sight but not much. Her eyes aren't white yet.

What did she say about the difference in her eyes?
Rachel said that with cataracts it means that the eyes can't drain properly and this leads them to bulge as there is a build up of fluid in the back of the eye. Betsy's eyes were back to normal this morning. I took the camera with me so I could show Rachel what the difference was last night.

Glad she is ok. My Dulcie had cataracts and coped well once she had adjusted.

Glad Betsy seems ok. One of my RIP boys had a fit where he was turning in circles and eyes went very odd. He recovered after a few minutes and he died of something unrelated a few months after that. As above, we looked into inner ear infections. Parasites or considered a mini stroke. The panacur is a good idea just in case. Vibes for Betsy

Sorry, I have been off line while all of this has been happening. What a horrible worry you have had. So glad Betsy is doing ok. I once had a piggy who had a massive fit right in front of me and out of the blue. I thought he was dying and rushed him straight to the vets. He recovered and although was left with head tilt, never had an other episode. Betsy has every chance of being with you for a long while yet:) Also having four legs, a low centre of gravity, good sense of smell and long whiskers means she is equipped to cope well with blindness. An other piggy I use to have was blind from birth, if I wanted to pick him up I always tapped the ground near him first so he knew my hand was coming his way and didn't get a fright

Aww poor Betsy, I’m glad it was nothing life threatening although sorry to hear about the cateracts. At least she has 3 wonderful “guide pigs” to aid her as her vision deteriorates.

Sorry, I've been away for a few days and just seen this. Glad Betsy seems to be ok, and from experience, blind piggies hardly notice that they can't see! Hope she's ok long term. xx

Poor Betsy I’m glad she is ok. Jet has cataract and he got on ok with it - but changing the cage takes a while to get used to.
