So you all know by now that I over think everything...
but here it goes,

I feed my piggies a mix of several types of hay (obviously in unlimited supply).
They have:

-Pets@H: meadow Hay with Timothy
-Burgess Excel: feeding hay with dandelion and marigold (less of this because of the dandelion)
-Woodlands: oaty harvest
-Woodlands: camomile harvest
-Oxbow: orchard grass hay
-Alfalfa King: Timothy hay

I supply a variety as variety for my piggies, but also because an exotic vet I saw a while ago said different ones (e.g. Timothy) are better for their teeth?

They mostly love the pets@H meadow with Timothy, but I find it can sometimes be chopped quite finely?

is there something better I can be offering? Or any of the above that I should avoid?

thanks all!

My piggies love the haybox Timothy. They’re currently offering two types - 1st which is stalkier (better for teeth etc) and a 2nd cut which is slightly softer but has more fibre. My two love a mixture of both in their bay pile but mostly pick out the 1st cut. I also give mine orchard grass from Timothyhay.co.uk which is great for their litter trays as it’s soft but isn’t too fine that it gets stuck in their eyes or anything too easily which I can find some meadow hay I used to buy did 🤦🏻‍♀️

Thank you so much! I will have a look at those 😊😊😊

I feed my piggies meadow hay from Haybox, and Oxbow timothy and orchard hay. I used to buy the p@h meadow hay but it's cut so tiny and fine and they are quite dusty. I only used to use them when the ones they prefer ran out. But now I have a Haybox subscription so the 2 bags of p@h hay have been stored away in the shed for quite a long time now.

Typically they’re both closed until the 4th January and the 8th January but I would definitely recommend them when they re-open. Especially the orchard grass if you’re feeding the oxbow version. I buy 7kg for roughly £25 which is much cheaper than the oxbow and much fresher in my opinion too!

Thank you both! I’m definitely going to have a look as I agree the Pets at Home stuff is dusty and finely chopped. I’m having a look online at your recommendations now 😊

We have the hay box meadow hay and the love it, they did enjoy the Timothy hay too but they left a lot of the stalky bits! Only issue is they won’t east anything other than hay box now 😂

I buy bales of meadow hay directly from the farm and also Nature's Own hay. Both are really nice and the piggies are happy to eat either.

I buy my piggies a farm bale of hay from the local farm shop for six quid. My piggies love it and this year it's really soft stuff. My piggies love it and it is a bargain. Do you have a farm shop near you? If you know anyone who has horses ask them who they get their hay from as horse owners are really fussy.

I have been using ALL LIVING THINGS Market MEDLEY variety hay box
1609198444589.webp they love it! it has orchard hay and timithy hay. just the right amount of sweetness and crunchyness!

I’ve always had horses, and I work with them, but I worry that hay that we use there could be exposed to rats etc in the barn, so I never bring it home for piggies lol. I’m very fussy about hay, but my horses have always had haylage which is far too rich for piggies. There are lots of farm shops around though, so I can try there 😊

I have been buying my hay from the farm shop for the past year since we moved here and never had a problem. They grow their own hay so it's good stuff. @teddymouse gets it from the same place and she has lots of piggies in a piggy palace.

Thank you. Fresh from the farm sounds great. It’s just the stuff we store in the barn from the summer that may have been contaminated by rats/mice. Especially as we have the laziest farm cats known to man, and the rats have a great time 🙈😂

I use meadow hay from p@h to fill their bedroom area so they don't get cold and Timothy hay from p@h for them to eat as it is better for them to eat and more nutritious.

My lot have always eaten meadow hay. They are really healthy. I strongly suspect your piggies eat the meadow hay too. As @Siikibam has mentioned hay is hay. Your piggies won't know which is for warmth and which is for eating. As long as it's good quality hay and they have unlimited access 24/7 that is all that matters.

Thank you all! I am trying to stop over thinking 🙈
I will have a look at switching from the dustier pets@H stuff. Thanks for your recommendations

Wow that’s a lot of hay, lucky piggys

We also recommend haybox, we buy the 50/50 subscription deal with a box of meadow and a box of timothy. Actually we buy multiples of that, they eat it faster than I can buy it lol :)
😁 They are saying sold out at the moment, but I’m guessing it’s because of the Xmas period?
