Hello!
I might be getting a cockatiel tomorrow, I’m so excited! I bought a large cage today but the only place I can fit it in the cottage is quite close to the piggy cage. Will this be an issue?
The part of the pig cage that is closest will be covered with with a fleece to stop any seed or dander falling into the cage. I’m confident I can keep the bird mess(food and dander) away from the cage so as long as I can do that their shouldn’t be an issue with the 2 living within close proximity should there?

Thanks for your help :)

Aw, that’s great, I used to have a cockatiel called Tommy back in the eighties! He was amazing, spent a good deal of the day on my shoulder nuzzling my hair and cleaning out my ears 😆 he was a corker! So friendly, he would dance when put in front of a mirror and say “Tommy’s a lovely boy” on the negative side my neighbour had an African grey parrot and they used to wind each other up through the lounge wall, it was deafening on some occasions!

They will be able to talk to each other, you might get a wheeking cockatiel!

aww Tommy sounded like quite the character! How lovely!..not so much the African grey conversations though :))

That was my first thought! It will probably learn to WHEEEEEEEEK:lol!:

The cage will be here with the piggies next to him like this.. do you think that will be okay? (haven’t set up cage yet, it will have lots of toys etc!..and I’ll keep the blinds down when the suns out!)

Please show us pics, let us know his name, and keep us up to date on his antics 🙏🏻

My mum and dad had a cockatiel called Dicky Bird (yes really) and when my dad would turn the light off at night and go up to bed, Dicky Bird would whistle Pop goes the Weasel. He was an adult bird when they got him and he'd nibble the side of my school text book through the bars when I curled up in the armchair next to his cage and do my homework. He'd also do this low pitch twittering down in the base of his cage when I was leaning over my school work. And if anyone put anything on the top of his cage like a mug, he would make so much noise! Such a sweet sweet character 💕

Your set up will be fine, the piggies and bird will definitely keep each other company. I must try a locate an old photo of him, he was a right character, they are lovely birds, can be quite demanding but very loveable once you’ve tamed them x

I think it looks perfect to be honest.
Not quite the same, but I had a cage of 3 budgies living next ot the pigs for years, and we never had any issues at all with them being in close proximity.
And budgies can be loud and very chatty - it never bothered the piggies at all.

Thank you so much for the encouragement everyone!
I do plan to get this bird a friend in the future, I can’t bring him home with one as unfortunately he’s the only one at the shop ( I don’t usually buy from pet shops! But it was love at first sight, he’s not a baby though so will require time and work to become tame). But I will look out for a rescue ‘teil for a companion for him :)
