I have a cockatiel who likes spending most of her time on top of my guinea pig cage and I was wondering whether or not birds can pass on diseases or illnesses to piggies. Not that she has any because she hasn't! She doesn't poop inside or on the cage when she is on top of it which I'm pleased about.

My guinea pig doesn't bother her. If he becomes a bit too close, she will then hiss at him and move away as quickly as she can. I've tried to move her from his cage whenever I see her on it but nothing has worked because she will always go back regardless of what I do.

I don't think it'll hurt your piggy so much as a dog or cat would but obviously other species carry their own diseases etc. So long as it isn't 24/7 and you clean the cage to a good degree when the bird isn't on their then I see nothing wrong with it. After all the piggy probably enjoys his winged neighbour! :)

Bird poop can sometimes irritate the sensitive respiratory tract of pigs, so you'd have to make sure he didn't poop in their cage :P
