Hello everybody!

Lately I've noticed that Sergio bites his cage fencing every now and then (sometimes I catch him doing it 4-5 times a day...). In the beginning I thought that he just wanted to eat something but then I realized that he was doing it even when there was a lot of food in his cage..
I tried taking him out of his cage in case he just wanted to be held but again I realized that this wasn't the problem..
He is about 1,5 years old and unfortunately he is my only one...
Is he trying to tell me something? Or is he doing it just to get my attention? What could be the problem? Any advice would be really helpful..
Thanks in advance! :-)

He could be bored and has found out that he can get your attention that way - that is my guess.

I've found that with many pigs, one of their favourite ways to pass the time is to chew things they shouldn't! newspaper, litter trays, food bowls, the bars of their cage; anything that is guaranteed to irritate you they will chew >.<
I'd recommend just making sure he has lots of toys to keep him busy. Things that you make yourself are often better than shop bought toys-

- toilet rolls/paper bags. stuff them with paper or hay :)
- cardboard boxes
- egg boxes (make sure they're clean!)
- apple tree branches

i'm sure other people can help you with more ideas, but these are the main ones I use :) good luck!

Sometimes I re arrange the pigs cage, once I've cleaned them out, move their igloo to another place, move their dry food somewhere new, swap their toys around a bit - they have to investigate and this occupies them for a few moments!

I notice once I've cleaned out the pigs cages/hutches they become very excited, probably because it seems like a new place to explore but maybe that's just my lot :))

Do you let Sergio loose anywhere, does he have an indoor run or can he run around safely in a room?

My New pig Eskay does this too but I think its because I have her in her own section of the main cage for now cause I don't want the other pigs to bully her.

I let him loose everyday because I know he's crazy about it..! I either let him on the floor and he runs around the room or on my bed which I know he loves!

Actually I've thought about all your advice and I think that (most of the times) he's doing it just to get my attention..For example, last night he was fine when I was in my bedroom with him..When I turned off the lights and left the room he started doing it again and he stopped as soon as he noticed me around :-)
Who knows? Maybe I've had him spoiled and now he wants me around all the time! ;)

Thank you all so much! :-)
