Last Wednesday was a really awful day. I was at a work related workshop and I got so mad there that I nearly walked out (never to come back).
So I was still pretty worked up when I got home.

I prepared the evening meds for Billie and Bonny, gave Bonny hers in the cage and took Billie out of the cage. Though she is really good at taking meds from the syringe while in the cage, she won't take Baytril on her own. She was sitting on my lap like every other evening, taking the meds from the syringe. That I put the cream onto her paw, like every other evening. Billie really hates the smell of the cream, but I always keep her in my lap for a short time after applying the cream.

And suddenly, without the slightest warning, Billie leapt off my lap. :yikes: One second she was sitting there, the next moment she was up in the air, like some stunt piggy.
It was a gigantic jump, a perfect jump ... but she landed about 50-60 cm down. On all 4 paws and disappeared under my sofa.
My heart nearly stopped. Billie with her bad front paw, with her tender back and the arthroses in her back legs. I was sure that this gigantic leap would be her last.

After catching her I felt her bones. It was clear that she had hurt herself, but nothing felt broken and she didn't indicate a painful spot. Of course the vet was closed for the day. I didn't know what to do.

So I tried putting her back into the cage. She acted as if nothing had happened.
I gave the evening veggies to them. And she ate as if nothing had happened, maybe a bit slower. Then she went to sleep.

Later that evening it became clear that she had hurt herself because there was an obvious problem with her hind legs.
You can imagine that my night wasn't very restful. In the morning I was relieved to find her wake, alert and hungry ... but dragging her back leg(s).
So I had to decide wheter to go to a vet I don't know, or go to my usual vet in the evening. I wrote a rather frantic message to the specialist vet. He replied pretty quickly, calmed me down and wrote that he didn't think anything was broken. She probably need pain medication and rest. But I should see my usual vet to be on the safe side.

She examined her a few hours later, did an x-ray. There was nothing broken, but Billie had all of her guardian angels on duty during this jump. Because her skeleton is in a really bad shape and it's quite astonishing that nothing was broken.
So she was prescribed pain medication ... and no more jumping!

Yesterday evening she started to be able to move her hind legs normally again and this morning she came out of the cage. Her walk looked good.

So I think that the worst is over.
But I definitely veto Billie's carrier choice as stunt piggy. And I think Billie would agree with me now...

Oh my goodness. What a terrible shock for you. Thank goodness the guardian angels were watching over Billie as she took her flight. I agree that she should look for a different career. Stunt diving should be left to others!

Oh Billie! What were you thinking? Not only did you scare the big slave but you could have done yourself in big time. Take it easy in the future. You are most definitely not a stunt piggy.

Oh Billie! You shouldn't scare your hooman like that. Flying is not natural for piggies and you really shouldn't try this again. xx
