Bladder Stone Help Please

Our boar who is 4 1/2 had surgery on 22nd April to remove a large stone from his bladder. From which he recovered well and was back to his old self. He was and still is on metacam reduced to 0.2 ml per day. However he has started squeaking more again when he wees and we have just noticed this morning that there is again blood there when he wees. Can it be another stone? It will only be 3 weeks on tue since his op? He has always been on a low calcium diet. He gets loads of hay, redigrass, burgess excel nuggets (but he doesn't really eat a great deal of these) typical veg are cucumber, lettuce, carrot, broccoli,celery. Any advice would be greatly received. Many thanks
 
Can you ring the emergency vet? I have no knowledge of bladder stones, but it sounds like blood in the urine after an operation warrants contacting your vet and should be part of the after care package.
 
Thankyou for your reply. Unfortunately the emergency out of hours can't really do a great deal today. I will be ringing the vets ASAP tomorrow morning to see the vet who did the surgery she is vey good with guinea pigs and therefore it is her I want to see again. Other than the blood in his wee and squeaking he is carrying on as normal and calling for his veg etc.
 
I would suggest dropping any activites for today to keep a close eye on him but i hope it goes well paws crossed :) x
 
Thank you for your reply yes we are keeping a close eye on him it's just a worry not knowing what to do. And if it is another stone if he can make it through another surgery so close to the last one.
 
It is possible a stone could have formed again but an infection is also a possibility. Has your vet discussed Interstitial cystitis with you? It is inflammation of the bladder and doesn't always tie in with a stone but can do. I have 2 pigs with IC. They too are on a low calcium diet and the most natural pellets which is Bunny Guinea pig basic from Zooplus. They are also on Glucosamine and one is also having Quercetin. My friend has done a vast amount on research on this. I also don't feed Readigrass as it can trigger bladder conditions and especially IC. Message me if you need any information.
 
Thank you for your reply. I will mention IC to the vet tomorrow when I go and stop feeding the readigrass. How would the vet know if it was IC would it jut be a Saar of treating the IC to see if that stops the blood? Many thanks
 
I think it is a case of ruling other things out so urine test for an infection, xray or scan for a stone. Symptoms of IC include:

Crying when peeing and/or pooing
Blood in urine which can include clots
Off the scale blood readings on urine test sticks
Off the scale protein readings on urine test sticks
Weight loss
Swelling of hind legs
Bunny hopping

If your pig does get diagnosed with IC Karen Malt from TKCC has put together an IC Diet plan which my pigs are on and I can give you details if needed it can also help with trying to stop stones forming though some pigs are prone to them. Karen is not a vet but runs a guinea pig health and welfare clinic at a vets in Broxbourne.
