While cutting my guinea pig Mochi's nails, a lot of bleeding occured. I applied cotton dipped in cold blood to the nailbed to stop the bleeding. We also used CornFlour and Ozomore DS (an antibiotic) to the nail. The bleeding has stopped a lot but I'm still worried. He lost around 1.5 ml blood. He's eating right now and isn't limping or anything. Should I use Fluid Therapy? What should I do? I'm just really distraught and probably crying more than anything. Any tips please?

Update: He licked the cornflour off his nail. Any tips on what else I can use? He's also roaming about carefree and it's not like I can stop his movement, but I'm worried if this will exacerbate the injury

I’m sorry to hear this. Cutting the quick is unfortunately such an easy thing to do.

As long as bleeding stopped quite quickly then it is usually just a case of monitoring for any signs of pain or swelling in the toe/nail. If that occurs then do see your vet

Thank you so much! There's no swelling and he's walking about. We'll be seeing the vet on friday

Update: his toe is inflamed today and he can't put pressure on that foot. We have given him Mupirocin ointment and Meloxicam. We are hoping that it will help his swelling go down. any thoughts? The vet appointment is still 2 days away, so I still want to be careful that his injury doesn't get exacerbated.

You could always call the vet and see if they have a cancellation or can get him seen earlier.

I hope he is ok

Thanks for the wishes xx
The vet isn't available earlier but we talked to him over phone. The situation isn't that dire but even the smallest injuries scare me :"(

Do you have an antiseptic cream or potion available? Like Bepanthen plus or Betaisodona? It could help a bit until tomorrow.
