Blind piggie

Hi, i have a female piggie, 7 years, 6 months, and blind. She lives with 2 other girls, and a neutered, disabled, boy. I Am thinking of putting her in a cage on her own, as she takes so long to eat, plus, the others seem to be taking the fresh food off her. Will she cope with being on her own?

Definitely let her mix with the other pigs permanently ,if they can get along as a herd . Putting a guinea pig to live in its own is one of the worst things you can do to them . Il tag @furryfriends (TEAS) , she has 2 blind pigs now .I

you might just have to let her eat veg alone , what Do others think about this ? Because I've never done this

We've got a number of blind piggies, here at TEAS. A blind piggy can mix in with sighted piggies just fine. Just wondered why you think she should eat her veggies alone?

Sorry I thought you meant she should eat alone, due to blindness. I see she eats slowly, so I am guessing that is why you said it?

For those that eat slower than the others, I tend to take them out, to give them their veg first and then pop them back in, and feed all together. That way she will have already had her share, so it doesn't matter if the others are grabbing most of the food. Please don't make her live permanently alone though!

This is kind of what I meant. Not eat everything alone , but just some veg to make sure she has had her share of vitamins. Glad I tagged you in , cause I was not sure what to say for the best

Any of our special needs pigs that become slow eaters get taken out for extra, individual meal times. Most of the time, the worst thing you can do for a disabled or special needs piggy is isolate them

Please leave her with her mates but feed her separately. Just make sure that she smells of the same foods that the others have when you put her back.

Use weighing as a way to monitor her weight and food intake, keeping in mind that hay is making the largest portion of the daily food intake; about 80%. That is not something you can check by eye.
