Can guinea pigs go blind? and if so what are signs? My lucy just seems like she might not see all that well and I was just curious to know?

Hi

I dont have any experience of piggies going blind so cant offer any help with the symptoms but little Paloma that we have recently took in along with her husband Rikki is blind though she sees through her nose and ears because she always knows where we are or where the veg is (especially if it is already in Rikki's mouth she steals it from it rolleyes) x

Guinea pigs can be born blind or partially sighted or injure their eyes.

Thankfully, sight is not the strongest sense in guinea pigs. They learn to compensate with their other senses and can still lead a perfectly full and happy life.

The most common ailment are cataracts which can be congenital (i.e. you are born with the genes that cause it), caused by diabetes or come on in old age.
