my nans guinea pig corky has a problem which ive been keeping an eye on but I'm really getting worried now..

a few weeks ago i was checking his manly bits just as a general check over when i noticed his bottom was very blocked but with a tiny bit of pressure it relieved it so ive been checking regulary.. but for a good month or two hes been absoulty fine but now hes started clogging up again.. last week but then today and I'm not sure what it is..

ive started weighing him to make sure hes not loosing weight but only started that today

but advice is appreciated.. a trip to the vets is being planned also

From your description is sounds like impaction. Boys can develop this - it's not an illness but a condition. He will need a bit of help to relieve him of his clog. Not pleasant but quick and easy to do.

This link explains the cause, etc and how to deal with it. Making sure he has a good fibre rich diet can help too, timothy hay is best - as well as not too much veg especially cabbage, cumcumber, etc. that will make his poos softer.

It sounds like impaction, which is not uncommon in older male piggies whose muscles tend to weaken and are unable to push out the poo as normal.

Unfortunately, you need to brave the stink and clean him out daily with some plastic gloves and wipes; he will become used to the procedure. If you don't, it can lead to infections and abscesses in the pouch, apart from extreme discomfort for the poor boy.

I have to agree with the others. This does sound like impaction. Like wiekbe says, its very smelly:{ but its one of those jobs that has to be done. The boar will feel great relief once its out.:)

thanks everyone, it defiantly smells haha because i have been relieving him everyday bu i was worried it was an illness so I'm happy that i was doing the right thing
