Blood In Pee Round 4

Hi guys. Ok Stanley was on his septrin for 24 days. There was no blood what so ever for the last week on abx. He hasn't had any for like 3 days and I'm noticing blood again.
I've just finished uni and am currently down £550 a month until I can get a psychiatry job. I'm really worrying about the vets just now. I've never been so skint in my life. My next step is to get him an ultrasound to get a clearer look at his bladder because the xray might have missed something, can someone give me an idea how much they cost?
x

I was sure that ultrasounds cost like £600....I'm really hoping I've got my facts wrong cause it means I'll need to borrow most of it just now and I hate the thought of owing my sister money. I'll just need to suck it up lol

At the vets where I used to volunteer at clinc an ultrasound was about £50 or £60 and I think my local vet is similar.

Erm, been a few years but my P's ultrasound was cheaper than any Xray. In fact I would hold P well he was scanned.

I heard recently about a vet not shaving a guinea pig, this defeats the point of an ultrasound. There belly has to be shaved in order to show anything and can be done without Sedation.

Be warned an ultrasound may show nothing. P was routinely scanned and nothing ever showed. It was an Xray which found his stones, I had a lot of Xray's done as I knew P had something going on.

We Xrayed him every 4-6 weeks, and finally the cause showed. Perhaps it was always there certainly his pain disappeared once it was removed. I can only think it was to small to show on ultrasound or Xray initially.

P's problems went on for over a year. Thankfully my vet doesn't sedated for Xray.

I think your getting mixed up with a CT scan which shows a huge amount of details but the cost is some what pricey.

@helen105281 Really!? That would be brilliant. I'll give them a phone tomorrow for a quote. If it's about that I have no problems at all.

@flintstones hmm. Ok, what's the difference between an ultrasound and an xray? What does each work best to show up in the bladder? I got him an xray a couple of months ago which showed nothing. I really don't know which one to try this week. X

I had P Xrayed, 4 weeks later he showed 3 stones small stones the vet wanted to flush them out. Next Xray was clear another 4 weeks and P needed surgery. That's literally how our Xray's went.

I can't tell you what to try, as both could be clear. In my experience it was a huge amount of money, time and energy but by doing this I was able to find his stone. It wasn't an easy journey. I do believe reguarly scans or Xray's for a guinea pig in this situation is necessary. It's costly but it puts you in a better situation. All P's Xray where done conscious.

@flintstones ahhhhh! Yeah your right! So just for future reference, Would a ct scan guarantee to show up anything that's wrong with the pigs?

If your vet uses GA for Xray, I'd be inclined to ask if he would have to have a Ga for ultrasound?

Ok, I think I might go for another xray and if it shows up nothing then start looking at IC treatment. How is IC diagnosed?
Then try for another xray or ultrasound in about 6 weeks.

They do their xrays conscious, I make sure of it. Lol. I'll ask about the ultrasound tomorrow when I phone them.

@TAN how detailed was Bumble Ct scan?

Bumbles CT scan and reporting came in at an amazing £114 ! - showed loads of detail - showed arthritis in knees - enlarged lymph nodes (reactive to the bumblefoot - so don;t think its cancer) - small cyst on liver - fractured tooth - sludge in bladder going into neck of urethra and what the x-rays didn't pick up because they are only in 2D and what has been causing the pain on weeing - a small stone on the top of the penis bone - he has been operated on to remove the stone and had the fractured tooth burred down - feeling sorry for himself and wanting lots of cuddles - so glad had the CT done - totally wiped out financially now as have to wait to claim back from exotic direct.

@TAN that's amazing. I'm really glad i know about them now, could be really important info at some point. i Really wish I'd known about them at the start of this year for another one of my girls. I'm really glad little bumble is on the mend, poor little baby. & I hope you get your insurance money back quickly!
