Hi!

I know my first course of action should be to go to a vet, and I definitely will. But I want to monitor the guinea pigs for a few days first - see who's peeing red, see if there are more red pee marks, squeaking, etc.

So, I cleaned the guinea pigs cage yesterday, and this morning when I went to clean their hay area I found this. I weigh them every Wednesday, and they haven't lost weight, Igby actually gained a few grams. I just don't know what to do, I don't know what kinda infection it is and I'm just worried :no:IMG_20191213_112050668.webp

I don’t think I would wait for a few days, I would take all your pigs to the vet sooner. The vet will be able to help identify which piggy is having problems. If there is an infection or problem brewing then getting treatment started quickly is the best thing to do.

Its tricky to tell if that is blood but I would definitely recommend a prompt vet check- the vet can very rapidly test the pee with a dipstick test for both blood and protein as part of a routine examination and so either set your mind at rest or find out who needs their bladder feeling for stones or a course of antibiotics for any potential UTI!
This doesnt seem like an out of hours emergency but I'd definitely phone the vet and get an appointment scheduled for Monday if you can, nobody wants a sick piggy over xmas, and coming up to the holidays vets get booked up fast- last year our lovely Piggle got a UTI diagnosed on Christmas eve last year and we were so lucky the vet could squeeze her in as an emergency appointment, she'd have had a miserable Christmas with sore burning pee without antibiotics and pain relief!

Okay, I will definitely call up the vet and try and get a Monday appointment, as this weekend I am piled with work. I'm glad Piggle is alright!

I didn’t mean for my post to come across that it was an emergency - I meant that the vet will be able to find who it is coming from so don’t delay for identifying purposes
Of course @Piggies&buns your advice was very clear and I definitely agree, potential bloody urine definitely needs a vet check as soon as possible- but with it being the weekend I just thought I'd add that during working hours on Monday is probably soon enough if no piggy is in pain while peeing x

Update!

The guinea pigs and I just got back from the vet. Basically he sees nothing wrong but thinks that switching the pellets I give the guinea pigs may help the pee. He didnt feel any stones and overall they pigs are healthy!Though, the guinea pigs have also been having poo issues so I will have to go back to the vet to give him some samples. This is the first time the guinea pigs have gone to the vet, or actually even been in a car! They were very scared, and did not like getting their temperature taken. XDXD

No pig likes the bum thermometer... good they've had a vet check, probably best give them some nice veggies as a reward for being so brave!
