When cleaning out the piggies, one wee in the cleaning out box, had alot of blood in it.
I separated them Harry has wee'd and it's normal, so I am guessing it is Nibbles. He hasn't done one yet.
Rang vets can only give an appointment for Monday aft. They have given me emergency number for tonight and tomorrow.
He appears well in himself and is eating and drinking.
I don't know how long he has been bleeding as the wee corners are always darker when wet.
Any advice please, I am very worried. :-\ :-\ :'(

Ahhhh bless sorry to hear this Monday ............ 98) Well, are you sure its blood or can it be something you are feeding him like beetroot ? :-\

Never given him beetroot. And yeh Monday :tickedoff:

Ahhhh bless him Is there any other vets you could take him too in your area ? :-\

Have you noticed whether he has been crying and /or straining when urinating?.This could be a UTI ,but more likely a renal stone.atch that he is peeing normally, because there is a danger of a stone blocking the urethra and causing retention. If this happens it is an emergency, you will need a vet asap.,also if the bleeding gets worse you will have to try and find an emergency vet.If you ring your vet surgery they should have a recorded message on how to contact the on duty vet.

Give the piggy extra water through a syringe, this will help to keep the bladder washed through. Use a white vet bed or white towel ,this will show how much blood there is.

I haven't noticed him staining or making a noise. I have the number for the emergency vet.
He hasn't had another wee yet, I have seperated them then I can be sure it's Nibbles.
I will put a towel under him.
Thanks

What about going to the PDSA if you are concerned I wouldn't wait.

Hope Nibbles is ok!

Is there one near here? Leigh.
He seems fine in himself, I am worried as I would have thought blood was serious.
I will google
Thanks

Nibbles has just wee'd , it is completely clear now I don't understand. Can this happen?
Both have now had a clear wee. There was definately blood in the box. :-\

Most vets do use the PDSA for thier out of hours service you can call them direct. It would help if you could gather as much information for them before hand eg what medication should be prescribed ect anyone know what the correct medication is? I hope all goes well get to the vets dont leave it till Monday ;)

Take a sample with you and still visit the pdsa today ;) good luck something is wrong get him checked out for your own peace of mind ;)

You know I have thought this with Cuzzy, yesterday the dirty thing wet ontop of his igloo, it was clear then when I went to the kitchen for tissue to wipe it up I was delayed by a phone call and when I came back he had pooped ontop and it was no longe clear. Could it be that?

Not sure, to be honest but I found this link for the PDSA to see if there is one in your area http://www.pdsa.org.uk/managed/finder.html

Are you absolutely certain that the blood came from urine?,is there a chance one of them could have injured themselves somehow?.Have a look at the pads, under the chin, etc.

Usually if there is a UTI or stone the piggy will screech and strain when urinating. This sympton normally occurs before the bleeding starts.

Just occasionally the bloody urine will be intermittant with clear urine in between.

See how it goes, you may get away with waiting till Monday

There is blood on the kitchen paper I put in the cage with Harry.
When he did a wee after I separated them it was clear.
I have moved him out now. I am struggling to find which one it is .
I'm not thick, but can it be clear at times and bloody at others?

I am sure one is bleeding . I have checked them both over and can find no sign of injury.
Thankyou all for your help I will take the tissue with blood on am going to ring round other vets now.

Harry is bleeding, when he pee's.
pinkish when it comes out, darker brown ish when dries.

yeah, hoping to go to emergency vet in a couple of hours. £44. for appointment.

Aww good luck, I'm sure with some antibiotics he will be as right as rain!

Hugs,

just back.
Vet says she's sure it's cystitis.
Harry has to have 0.25 ml of baytril once a day for 4/5 days.
I feel so much happier now he's seen the vet. :)
Just had his first dose, wasn't keen on the syringe though.

The dose for Baytril is 0.4ml per day,and Septrin is a better antibiotic for cystitis.,but if the infection is mild the Baytril may work.

Paws crossed that this is an infection, but in my experience bleeding is more likely to be caused by a renal stone. If there is no improvement after 5 days on the Baytril it would be worth considering having a scan or x ray done.

Thanks maryh, she said 0.25 as he's quite little. Under 500gms. Don't know if it makes any differece.
She felt him all over and not a peep out of him, and even had his temp took without a squeak, just a bit of wriggling.
I will be keeping a close eye on him.

I'm sorry to hear about your GP, hope she will be ok.

One thing you could add to help with a UTI is cranberry juice, it has some good intomicrobial qualities and is safe to give GP's. How long was the course, its advised to give at l east2 weeks preferably 3 for UTI's. They can take a long time to go.

I will get some cranberry juice.

vet said 4 to 5 days on meds.

I am going to watch Harry carefully and will go vets again if necessary.

Thanks everyone, advice is really appreciated. O0

If you get cranberry juice, make sure it does not have any sugar or added sweetener.
