Junior Guinea Pig
I got the boys out earlier for their clean out and noticed that Smudge had a slightly bloody nostril. He's normal in himself (crazy), eating normally (pretty much anything in sight), pooping/peeing normally and seems generally ok - nothing out of the ordinary at all. The blood is only in one nostril and there is only a very small amount. He's not sneezing and his breathing sounds fine. The blood wasn't there yesterday. I've been checking him regularly throughout the day and it hasn't got any worse, it's still the same.
At the moment I'm assuming that maybe he's poked himself with hay or something - does this sound likely? I've heard of this happening, but never experienced a nose hay poke injury.
I will keep checking him - especially for signs of wheezing/difficulty breathing - but I'm not sure what to do as the blood is the only symptom of a potential illness. I will take him to the vets tomorrow if there's no change, as a precaution if nothing else - I've lost 2 beloved pets this year and I'm not about to lose another without a fight.
As always, I will make sure he's warm and comfortable, but is there anything else I should do in the meantime to help him?
Thanks x
