Can anyone help? I noticed yesterday that one of my piggy's has a blue eye, She is about 5-6 months old. I have looked around the eye and apart from being a little red there is notthing inside it. She is eating and playing normally. Any ideas what this could be? It's the whole eye. I shall take her to the vet as soon as I can , Just wondered if anyone could give me some advice please,

Thanks Heidi

If it has come on very suddenly from one day to another, it sounds like an eye infection caused by a poke or a scratch or something stuck under the eyelid. Please have her seen by a vet; with drops or gel the infection will clear pretty quickly. Only a vet can see whether the cornea (the surface of the eye) has been ulcerated with the help od a special dye.

There is a condition called nuclear sclerosis which is similar to a cataract which can develop fairly quickly. In this case, the whole lens goes opaque in one go unlike a cataract which develops slowly from grwoing dots in the lens. This condition is not treatable.

But you want to get a proper diagnosis from a vet, so please have her checked as soon as possible.
