hello, I am a New Guinea pig mummy to two handsome young boars. They are around 8ish months. Chewbacca (chewie for short ☺️) has had issues with his bits hanging out, the vet said it could be hormonal and recommended having him castrated. All went fine however four weeks later he seems to have what I expect is cauliflower willy. I have read up on boar cleaning but I am unsure how often I should be checking his bits to keep everything in check? I have been cleaning him with warm water and cotton wool pads but I have not been able to get his willy to completely pop out....I guess I have not got the knack! They are my sons piggies but I have totally fallen in love with them....what great little personalities they have so I want to make sure I keep them both healthy. This is what he looks like at the moment....thank you

Hello, it looks like a cauliflower willy, they are not harmful but as you say need regular cleaning. It all depends on the piggy, some need cleaning every few days, others every few weeks. I get into the habit of routinely looking down there whenever l handle a boar and doing a proper clean once a week.
Protruding the willy on a cauliflower willy is more difficult as there is lots of redundant skin. Practice on your other boar and you will soon get the hang of it. A vet or vet nurse or a local rescue should be able to show you if you are struggling.
Glad that you have caught the piggy bug!
