I just wanted to ask am I right in thinking that it is quite hard to come across single make boars in rescues that are seeking a new playmate by boar dating? It seems that they always come in bonded pairs which might make it difficult to find a friend for my piggy. There also seems to be quite a few of us who have boars who have lost a pal who are also looking for the same.... So does it ever come to the point where you give up your own piggy so they can be successfully bonded with another from an pet owner rather than a rescue? Does that make sense! X

I'm having a similar issue in that I'm looking for a single neutered male - these appear to be in very short supply right now and I'm not sure why? all the males ive seen in rescue right now are already paired with another male/female.

In a boar dating situation if i thought the single boar was needing a friend (i.e seeming quiet, withdrawn etc) and the rescue route was exhausted with little or no suitable matches then i would certainly consider looking at other options i.e giving the pig up to either a rescue or private individual that could offer them that friend yes. As hard as that would be, there is no better gift you can give to a guinea pig than another guinea pig friend....

I remember when the bonding failed with my neutered male and i was on the lookout for a suitable girlfriend for him - i was in the same (but sex type reversed) situation as i am now - girls appeared to be like gold-dust, especially single females. Funny how when you are not looking for a specific sex single guinea pig that the rescues are bursting to the brim with them.....

It varies so much from rescue to rescue and at different times. I know there's sometimes a bit of a wait at my local rescue then like buses three come along at once!

I agree it varies i just successfully paired up one of mine up at a local rescue in Nottingham, took two attempts but he has found a friend he loves, can't recommend them enough if your in the area or can travel :)

I would need to check but I think Nottingham is quite far for me to travel.

On the main RSPCA web site there is a boar and sow who are mother and son needing a home. On the Bobtails web site there is also a neutered boar. I am not sure if that is any help to you.

Hello, the problem is I would need someone to help match my piggy with another one as I am not experienced and wouldn't want to do a dating on my own. I live in Buckinghamshire and would travel up to 2 hours to find him a piggy friend. I have contacted hazelcroft rescue where I got my bus from but Sarah doesn't currently have any single bus at the moment. Another rescue in hitchen has a pregnant sow who if she gives birth to a boy may be a possibility but I would want her to boar date them as again I wouldn't want to do this with twiglet. I have also contacted another rescue in Southampton and am still awaiting them to come back to me. I will have a look on the bob tails website

I've just emailed bobtails rescue but they don't seem to have any boys seeking a new home at the moment

Nottingham is about 2 hours away i used to come down to surrey to see someone a few years ago and took me 2 hours to get to Esher :) Its dependent on what your boys like he might get one with a slightly younger piggy if hes not too dominant :)

I will keep looking for a boar dating rescue and if no boars available by the end of April I think I will consider another option

hi hun, The Potteries Guinea pig rescue is in stoke on trent and helen currently has 3 young boars available for dating, so your piggie could have the pick of three. She's really good at matching piggies, I've been there twice and can reccomend her, plus she's full of advice and help and if you ever have any issues you can always call up for help. Might be slightly further but its all motorway and dead easy to find :)
