Hello All

I have done a few posts on my boars that I had to split up. Scooby and Shaggy have been living side by side now for a little while and they don't show any aggression through the bars anymore. However At floor time the other day we decided to try them together and whilst there was no fights like the one i witnessed the other week, there was still a heavy amount of teeth chattering, for periods of time untill their interests were peaked elsewhere.
My question is this, I have tried the buddy bath and putting them in a neutural enviroment, it seemed fine for a while and they started at each other again. Is there anything else I can do, they have lots of room now, good diet plenty of handling and do seem happy in their own spaces, they popcorn a plenty. But i can't help but think they would be happier with a cage mate, ideally each other.
In the next few weeks I will be building a large enclosure for all my board, my two youngest will have the top run6ft by 2.5ft
and i was going to do two levels each for the sperated boars, but it would be great to have them together.
So any boar experts with advice it would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
Joe

Please be aware that you have done everything you can do to make them get along, but there are limits. Like two humans, you can't force them to love each other and live happily by sticking them together. There is simply no magic wand!

I am very sorry, but I think it is time for you take leave of your dream and think about how you can give them happy lives as next door neighbours. Quite a number of members have "can't live together but can't live apart" boars that need their own territory, but are still bonded through the bars and keep each other company. If you are very lucky (it only happens in some cases, mostly not), your boys may eventually be able to share space during lawn time when they are adults and the testosterone output is not quite as high.

It is always a major disappointment when things don't work out the way you wish it to. But once you get over it, you can concentrate on working out how to enrich their lives and let them be themselves as they are, not as you want them to be.

Hey thanks for the advice I have an idea in mind which I think will work out best for them in terms of housing and having enough room. I won't bore you with details but share a pic once it's done in the next month or so.
It ashame they can't get on and was aware that they can't be forced to be happy together just wondered if there was anything like a hail Mary, one last throw of the dice. .
My opinion on buddy baths is a bit conflicted at the minute I can't help but think they are only as good for as long as the scent has been washed away as soon as it returns it's back to square one so almost abit like false hope.

I fully agree on your assessment of buddy baths - you will find the same opinion expressed in my guide. They are useful only if both piggies are covered in testosterone-laden pee after a hormonal spike and a near fall-out, simply to remove the smell of it and prevent them getting riled up again from it immediately when you try a re-introduction on the following day, but otherwise they do not contribute to the ultimate outcome and are more of a hindrance than a help. Forum members can confirm this from their own experiences. It is one of these things that make the rounds online that do not stand up to the hype, but that everybdy has heard of and will bring up when you ask for tips.

All the best for your plans! Pictures please!
