I have a 2 and a half year old boar called Jericho, he's currently on 0.3ml of Sulfatrim twice a day for possible cystitis, now one of the days my son forgot to give him his probiotics (both times), could this have caused a problem and if so is there a way that we can remedy it? He's also on 0.4ml of metacam once a day. Can we syringe him extra probiotics in the day and would that help? I don't know 100% if he's gone off eating and drinking because he ate his veg, it's just that the water isn't as low as it usually is and theres not many pellets gone, I did take an hand full of hay out and put it on the cage floor, he looked as though he was eating it.

I'm going to ask my son to get him and Big's out of the cage later so I can check if he's going to the toilet ok. It's probably just me overly worrying as usual.

Thanks in advance.

Ok will do thanks, I don't know why I didn't think to do that, it's what I usually do if I suspect we have an ill guinea... duh me... I think my anxiety had kicked in and as I said in my original post, I'm overly worrying.

I would usually try and weigh at the same time every day, would that be ok @flintstones ?

Ahh ok :) He usually has veg first thing, so I'll get my son to help me to weigh him when he gets up. He was 1.2 last time he was weighed. My son's really good with the guinea's, so it's him that medicates etc. (he's 22).

Thanks @flintstones

Do you know what Metacam it is? cat or dog? also, it would be a good idea to split the pain relief so he has it twice a day.

It's the dog one @helen105281

Could it be the metacam? He'll be weighed when Aidan gets up, I can check if he's lost anything since seeing the vet on Sunday then.

So 0.2ml twice a day?

Also is it ok to give the anitibiotics and the metacam at the same time or should we leave a gap?

Yes that's more reasonable, it is possible that the Metacam will have worn off half way through the day.

yeap we usually leave the probiotics for 1 - 2 hours after.

Thank you @helen105281 I'll let Aidan know about splitting the metacam :) That's a good point about it wearing off, it was what the exotic vet in Derby put as the dosage, but we'll definitely try what you have suggested :)

If the poop goes soft it could be worth upping the dose of the pro, that's what I have had to do in the past x
Hope the little guy get's his 'umph' back soon xx

I do have another question, if we were to give him probiotics in between medication, how long before his second lot of antibiotics would we need to give the probitotics? (if that makes sense?).
