I’m going away next week and my two adult children and 87 year old mother in law are looking after the boys. But I’m feeling it’s a lot to ask of them all. If I take Percy and Pepper to a boarders will they fight because of a change of territory? I’ve had 4 boars before who all had to live in separate hutches after bad advice from the pet shop so really don’t want to do anything to break Percy and Peppers bond.

What’s your experiences of boars going to the boarders?

Many thanks

Also my two are housed in the garage. The sitter I’m thinking of using their hutches are outside. Would they be ok for a week outside?

It’s a difficult one? My old rainbow boys Bill and Ted only one fall out and that was when we were given a large 6 ft double bunny hutch. We thought it would be lovely for them as their original cage was only 4 x 2 ft. We popped them in and went out for the morning thinking they would be having a great time and came home to carnage. They were lunging, teeth chattering and they both had patches of hair missing but no obvious wounds, although I do wonder if Ted received a bite from Bill in his mouth as a couple of months after that he started with dental problems?
We had to separate them for 24 hours while they calmed down and they then went back together quite happily. I can only think the DIL’s rabbit (previous resident) smelt like a sow?
They never had any other fall outs apart from the rumble strutting and Ted got the odd hump from Bill
So I would advise caution, if you can keep them at home then that might be best?

That's what I’m thinking. I just hate imposing on others to help with “my” animals. My kids are in and out all of the time and I don’t want them to have to stay in for the animals. Our puppy is coming on holiday with us. So it’s just the piggies and fish. It’s a tough one.

I don’t know what you should decide. The first time I left my boys, they were in a cage smaller than they were used to at home. I did worry about it causing friction because of their age (they were just a year old) but it seems they were okay with it.

I guess it’s up to you how you feel and what you think.

Thank you. My head is telling me give them to a sitter but my heart is saying don’t upset the balance.

Whilst not the same, I am potentially sending our piggies to a boarder when we go away, the space the girls will be in is adequate but smaller than we have at home, Mr Pig won't be able to be next door but will be opposite but I don't feel I can ask someone to come in twice a day and clean them for 2 weeks. I think you have to go with what feels right for you.

I've in a similar situation. I adopted two boys in April and there was a lot of noisy argy bargy for about a week when they arrived before settling down again. I've warned the boarding place to expect some boisterous behaviour with the change in habitat and a smaller cage than I have here.

Thanks everyone. It’s all helping me make a decision that I’m comfortable with. 😘

Pepper & Pringle go to a boarder and we have never had any issues, pepper sometimes gets a bit dominant but they have never fell out! They have a 2x4 cage when they go to a boarder.

Hope you can enjoy your holiday.
Hector and Hamish go to a boarding place for some of their holidays. We haven’t had any trouble. The lady we use, says that as soon as she lets them out now they bumble about as if in a familiar place, with no trouble at all. I send in a couple of fleece offcuts or small pee pads that have been in their home for a few days before so something smells familiar, and its not a totally new smelling environment.

Thanks that’s reassuring
