Teejay
Adult Guinea Pig
Hi all, I have now paired up my two castrated boars with a lovely little lady friend each.
Cheeky Squeaky is paired up with the adorable Coco, and they get on like a house on fire! They're like an old married couple; they potter round the cage nose to bottom chuntering to each other, they snuggle up together to sleep, and they often end up munching on opposite ends of the same piece of hay, bless them! I chose to pair these two together cos they seemed to be such a close match personality wise.....both are bold, confident, inquisitive and friendly and both have a feisty streak! rolleyes So far, so good!
That meant that Pudding was paired up with Darklis, and, to be honest, I though that would also be a good match, as, again, they are both similar in character......both quiet, a bit timid, very submissive. The pairing has worked ok, there's definitely no squabbling and they are perfectly at ease in each other's company, but they just didn't seem to interact with each other very much. Most of the time, they'd be on different levels of the cage, Darklis hiding away, and they'd only really meet up when it was veggie-time.
So, we took the decision to get another young sow to go in with Pud & Darklis, in the hope that having another youngster with her might bring Darklis out of her shell and also in the hope that Pudding would actually have another piggie to interact with, rather than one that hides away most of the time.
We got Cookie on Saturday....we decided that we needed a bold, confident baby, cos we figured that would be the best personality 'mix' with two timid little souls...and boy, is Cookie confident!
She's a teeny little thing, but, right from the minute we got her home, she's shown us just how loud and bold she is! She shouts at the top of her voice whenever she thinks food is in the offing, she's happy to be picked up and cuddled, and she's the first one to come marching out the cage when it's floor time.....she's yummy!
All three of them seem to have had a new lease of life since Cookie joined them!
Anyway, I was just musing about how getting the personality mix is so crucial....feel free to ignore my ramblings!
