Hello,

Meet Eric, Neville and Pablo. Neville was a year old the beginning of May 2017, Pablo was a year old the middle of May 2017 and Eric has just turned 1 years old (mid July 2017).

I rescued Neville with his friend Teddy in July 2016, but unfortunately Teddy had an underlying birth defect and sadly died 2 weeks after he came home. As Neville was still so young at the time i sought out a friend (Pablo) for him. Shortly after someone told me of a guinea pig who was being picked on by all the other guinea pigs he lived with and so Eric came to live with us too.

They all lived together happily for just under a year and then suddenly Eric started humping the others, eventually Neville got so fed up with it Eric and Neville had a huge fight (i wasn't there when it happened), resulting in a gash to Erics neck, slices out of eachothers mouths and poor Pablo was covered in their blood.

I separated Eric as his behavious was still quite threatening. It seems as though i'll never be able to put Eric back in as a trio, but i know Pablo and Eric are missing eachother as they spend their time snuggled up either side of the mesh now separating them. Equally Neville has pined when i've put Pablo in with Eric.

Any suggestions on how i might re-bond them? I know most of you will say that since they've drawn blood i won't be able to but having a 4th guinea pig really isn't an option for me at the moment.

I thought they were past their adolescent stage...

:luv:Sadly when a fight has lead to blood being drawn it's the end of the line and can't be rebounded. Having them so close together when they were once friends will make it difficult for them too, I have to say I'm not in favour of that practice as I believe it causes anxiety in guinea pigs. You will need to keep Eric away, work out which ones do work together but it will definitely mean having two houses very separate and a new piggy friend for the loan boar. We always advise that trio's of boars rarely work, yes there have been cases, but it generally doesn't last long.

Your piggies are gorgeous by the way.

That's so sad :-( since Pablo is such good friends with both of them he's so laid back and easy going.

I had Eric inside with me whilst they were separate (as it's summer they are in their outdoor hutch at the moment) and he seemed to enjoy the human company. If only he could come to work with me so i could keep him company. He's currently enjoying carrying and pushing his teddy friends around so i'm happy he isn't pining too much for his friend.

I'm sorry, but it not going to work, please don't attempt it again as serious injury may result. Boar trios rarely work there is so much misinformation out there and your story is something we see on the forum monthly - sadly.

Can I suggest looking at a rescue for boar dating for Eric?

Will having a sow around upset the apple cart with the Pablo and Neville even though they will are in a separate cage?

I am unsure on that as I keep sows only, hopefully someone can answer that for you
