I love them but sometimes :hb:. Due to old age and illness I've lost my lovely easy going boars and their partners are left, all appearing to be dominant characters. Due to my age and change in circumstances I don't want to take on any more. It's now a case of those that are left bonding in pairs or living side by side, I would like to make at least one pair out of the remaining 4.
Red and Nugget have been in the bonding pen all day. I decided now Nugget is well past his operation and Red is over his recent URI and then UTI it's time to act before something else happens. I read the bonding guides to refresh my memory. I gave them both a good talking too. I explained that if only they could get on they could have a nice 6x2 C&C cage instead of living with a divider in 3x2s, we don't have room for them to be side by side in anything bigger. I told Red now he's coming up for 5 he should be calmer and let Nugget be boss! They have eaten side by side, slept about 5 times, cuddled together, chatted together and seemed so often as if they are getting on. Then the grumbling and teeth chattering starts all over again, it's still a case of will they won't they. The house stinks, it's too cold to have a window open so we will live with that! They can stay in the bonding pen for as long as it takes to get a definite answer, I won't move them until things are calmer. I don't want to rearrange the cages and then have to put it back the way it is. I'm preparing to sleep on the sofa tonight, I'm a light sleeper so I'll hear them if they really kick off.
I'd still have boars everytime, they are adorable and funny but I do miss my lovely pairs who entertained us with their antics. What a difference 2 years makes.
Please can everyone send calming vibes!

Fingers firmly crossed for them Sue 🤞I miss the antics of Bill and Ted too, there’s really nothing better than a pair of well bonded boars 😆

O dear I’m sorry, I just had tears rolling down my face as know what your going through, I have two sets of boys, younger & older and tried bonding them, they were having non of it, strutting chattering rumbling charging scents filled the room horrible smell, can’t type for the memory of it, towel at the ready to chuck on them in case fur flies and blood appears, I give up in the end and just kept them separated, floor time they are next to eat other but there are bars in the middle of them, that’s easier than having panic attacks over them , thinking of you and good luck 🤞

I’m just having a sudden memory of eau de boar stink! The liberal spraying of their manly smells during bonding…. It’s so nerve wracking doing bondings, particularly when you know that it’s so much in their interests to live together. It sounds promising though, if they’ve eaten and slept together. Fingers crossed they will accept this new arrangement. Hope you have a peaceful night.

I hope things went well and they can enjoy living in their bachelor pad for two.
Still lots of arguments and chasing in between the sleeping and eating, it could still go one way or the other. I'm leaving them in the pen tonight, they are both dominant and neither wants to completely back down but they both go and eat hay when they get right up to the wire. I was hoping they would calm down by now but I shall stay on the sofa tonight. This is the best pairing I've got out of the four remaining piggies, all other combinations are definitely no!

Just split them. Red charged Nugget and pushed him the length of the pen. Reds hackles were raised and he ripped out a chunk of Nuggets hair. The teeth chattering went up a few notches too so time to call it. Such a shame but they are happier appart, Nugget popcorned when he got back in his cage. I hate seeing them in a small space but at least summer is coming. They have 2 large runs each in the garden joined with 6ft long tubes, fingers crossed for a good summer.

That’s sad but at least you tried.

I’m sorry it didn’t work out. Maybe they’re just set in their ways - my way out the highway.

So sorry the bonding didn’t work out Sue, blooming gorgeous naughty beggars  Think they need to start helping with the washing with these lone cages now though the cheeky blokes, it’s their turn! :hug:xx

Oh Sue, you gave it every possible chance. Pesky boars. Why can’t they see it’s in their own interests to get along?

Things could be worse, at least they all have a neighbour. They seem quite happy as they are. I think it's me that has the problem, I don't like providing the minimum cage size or just having a neighbour rather than a cage mate but I've done all I can to change that. Things change, we had some lovely years of pairs, now we shall have some lovely years with singles.

I love boars, but I have all very dominant boars, find it's easier to neutered and place with sows .I needa neutered boar to go with a female group.I'm on the look out !

Poor you! :(

Remind me of the time when I suddenly ended up with four older widows none of which would go with any of the others... It took me 10 months before Tegan and Calli decided they could be best of friends after all and three tries to get Ffwlbri to bond with her sister Tesni and her young gentle toy boar Gethin who she was not at all willing to share with her more dominant sister. And Nesta never wanted to share her space with another piggy again.

Complex personalities really takes on another meaning, doesn't it? :yikes:
