My two new piggies are now in together. They have spent a couple of days side by side in a run and are now together in a neutral, indoor cage (temporary).
A lot of the time they are ignoring each other or just pottering about or eating as though everything is normal. But every now and then they will start teeth chattering and the occasional scuffle is breaking out with a bit of nipping and fur pulling. It seems to settle fairly quickly and they usually rertreat to different hidey holes.
Is this fairly standard bonding behaviour? How much minor scraps do you allow before you feel its necessary to separate them? Is it a good sign that they are peaceful the makority of the time? How long does this normally take?

Hi, is it boars or sows?

How old are they? I got 2 boars that started like that and I ended up having to separate them but I was unlucky.

Genrally as long as they don't draw blood they should be fine, just keep an eye on them. Do not separate unless you really have to as it is very hard to reintroduce.

Hopefully things will settle shortly, they are just trying to decide who is boss at the moment.

Try using 2 food bowls and water bottles just now - worked for me when I introduced Mini to Chewy :)

They are boars - not sure how old they are but I would guess young adults.
I will try the two bowls thing - thanks :)

Teeth chattering has now changed to rumbling.. I thought that was a mating noise? What is it likely to mean in this context with two boars?

I was listening to guinea pig sounds last night after googling and discovered that my John was probably teeth chattering rather than rumbling when we first introduced Bob...oooops!
It settled down by the end of the week though :)

Sounds like they are still working out who is top pig
