Hi all.
A family I know have 2 female young guinea pigs (children have one each)and I have suggested it might be nice to bond them so they are company for each other.Ive only ever bonded one trio so am not very experienced with bonding but have some general guinea pig experience so am helping them.

Anyway they are currently in a little pen-about 6x2 ft.They are both quite scared as in very unfamiliar territory and are huddled together. They aren't going through the normal bonding rituals understandably so I'm wondering-if they are finding comfort in each other, which must be a good sign, how we determine how its going-if that makes sense.

If they bond they will be living in a 5x2 cage which belongs to one of them but has been thoroughly cleaned to make it neutral.

They've been together in the pen -mostly huddled together for about an hour now.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi!
Please take the time to read this detailed guide that covers the whole bonding period until the end of the dominance phase. If your piggies are very stressed out, make sure that they have got hay, water some fresh food and a blanket/cover over the top of the bonding pen to give the piggies a feeling of safety. Guinea pigs are prey animals and feel very exposed in unknown open areas.

Thankyou Wiebke.
I had placed a fleece blanket over the top of their run but they were still pretty scared!
Being nervous girlies anyway I thought it might be good for them to have each other for company,
I'm really pleased to say the bond seems to have worked and they are in a hutch together munching on a big pile of hay!
Thankyou too for the bonding link.x
