Hello All

Some of you may have read my previous threads about scooby and shaggy. They were not getting along and get seperated, by putting a divider in their floor space. Weeks rolled by and they stopped rumblestrutting next to the divier and showing teeth, so last sunday at fleece changing time we decided a reintroduce but without a buddy bath (tried this previously it was a false hope).

It has now been 5 days, they seem to be getting on and chasing each other about, no major bust ups no blood drawn, no two pigs entangled in a death roll. so at the moment everything is looking good and my girlfreind and I couldn't be happier.

In other news Drogon and Elvis seem like two wonderfully bonded boars, they share the same box with hay to sleep in and play zoomies together. It is very cute.
We did have a bit of a scare with Drogon, both him and elvis appear to be Abi's, and drogons hair had somehow worked its way into his piggy willy, and got stuck so when he was walking it started to pull his willy out more and more, almost making it look like a prolapse (minging i know but only way to describe it). He is fine now it went back in within a minute of freeing the hair.

But all in all 4 happy boars, and 2 happy slaves :D

I'm sure by now you've Carefully trimmed the hair away from his delicate area!

Haha yes we have, he seems to get really matted underneath. Most of which we can cut away. However he has a matt under his armpit which I'm not comfortable cutting myself, so bathed them the other night to see if it loosened....it hasn't so going to try coconut oil this weekend.

Buddy baths are only a help if you are dealing with re-introducing nearly fallen-out boars after a hormone based tiff and they are both covered in testosterone laden pee. In that case, a both works to remove any stink from the coat that could rail up the boys instantly when they meet again.
Baths don't work if the disagreement goes further or if tempers are still running high. In later bondings it is NOT necessary and rather a hindrance than a help because the hormone stink is not present. That is also the reason why buddy baths with sows or mixed bondings are not needed. ;)
Ultimately, it depends on the personalities involved whether they get on or not. No trick in the world can force two clashing personalities to get on.

Fingers firmly crossed that your two boys are over the worst of the teenage hormones and have decided that they are happier together than apart.

Yeah i understand what you mean about the baths.
I was going to post this monday, then tuesday and so on but didn't want to jinx it. But last night they were both under the stool and it seemed peaceful. So i am hoping the worse of it is over. and if not i have learned a great deal about what is the absolute maximum i feel is safe for them when it comes to disagreements.

@Wiebke Hope you are well, I have put this in here rather than a new thread as I was hoping for some advice. As you may remember I have four boars, 2 in the living room and 2 in the kitchen. The two in the kitchen scooby and shaggy now seem content with each other I wouldn't say they are bonded like my other two as the share beds. Whereas scooby and shaggy will eat out of the same bowl but rarely share a pigloo or box with hay etc. Anyway My question is:
In your experince if you have a fragile relationship with two boars is it best to keep the other 2 boars in the living room or can I keep them in the kitchen side by side cages or maybe a decent gap between them.
I ask because when they have floor time they are (all the boars) obsessed with trying to get into the other room because they can hear the squeeks, so I am not sure if it would be a good idea or bad idea to have them in the same room?
I appreciate any advice you may have,

Not all piggies enjoy a close bond with snuggling up with each other. In fact, many piggies don't. That doesn't mean that they are not bonded solidly. How old are Scooby and Shaggy and how long have they been together? if they are still teenagers, I would leave them where they are and not rock the boat.

Hey Wiebke, I wasn't aware that they could still be bonded and not share beds. Scooby and shaggy are both around 7/8 months difficult to age properly due to no birthdates given from P@H and when we got our other two boars they told us they were 12 weeks but in hindsight i think they were much younger when i reviewed age/weight charts etc.
I was going to be leaving them in the kitchen but moving the other two boars in there too, in a seperate enclosure obviously but in the same room, I wasn't sure if this could potentially kick them off again or settle them further, as the piggies do all seem to wheek to each other through the rooms, and seem to be very interested in getting into the other room where the other piggies our.
I can happily wait another few months before moving them or potentially not moving them at all, just wasn't sure if it was causing them distress knowing there were other piggies in the other room.

Your boys are right in the middle of the teenage months, so I would give them at last another 3 months until the worst has settled. There is going to be a bit of a new hierarchy sort-out in any new surroundings, even if you shift them in their uncleaned cage. Right now, it is not a good idea while their testosterone is at an all time high, even if it is not at the extreme where even a cage clean can upset very hormonal boars.

Your boys are well aware of each other (my house is completely wheeker alarmed), but I would not move them right now unless you really need to. Remember that guinea pigs have a much better sense of smell and hearing! ;)
Boars: Bullying, Fighting, Fall-outs And What Next? (this guide also contains some information of how the teenage months typically run and what you should or shouldn't do during this time)

It is unfortunately a total misconception perpetuated by all these snuggling videos online, but if you let guinea pigs live in a group, you'll find that they actually mostly do not snuggle up.
