Hi i am trying to introduce a baby guinea pig Bolt to 3 year old guinea pig Bud they are in cages next to each other at the moment just had them both out for a run in the kitchen there was chasing, bum sniffing, rumbling and weeking but no teeth chattering the only other thing is bud was constantly trying to hump bolt i have taken pictures of bolt and just want to make sure he is deffinatly male before i put them out together again

Unfortunatly that picture is not clear enough to give a definate sex of the piggy. *mainly because its too small* could you take a closer one for us?

Male piggies do sometime hump eachother to decide whos in charge, however if you are worried a clear picture will help us sex him

*thankyou for the better picture, looks like a male to me but youll have lots more opinions soon dont worry. :)*

Thats a very good picture. Personally I would say thats a little boy. :) However you can test by feeling gentle just above the little dot. If he is a male he should have what feels like a little rod underneath the skin. This is the penis. :)

Definitely a male! They do sniff, chase and mount each other to establish dominance - aslong as it doesn't turn nasty and they don't attack/bite each other they should be fine. It doesn't always work out but if Bolt is still very young he will probably just let Bud be in charge without putting up much of a fight because he's not at such a hormonal stage. I'd introduced my baby pig Godzilla to Nemo who is about 5 1/2 not so long ago and Godzilla is just so attached to Nemo now, it's like me and my shadow. They don't make any sort of displays at each other, just total calm, they get along great.

I'd carry on introducing Bolt and Bud in a neutral setting, such as the run, until you feel you are happy to put them in a cage/hutch together. I'd still have them somewhere you can watch them though just for a few days. Make sure any accomodation is throughly cleaned and disinfected before you do that, just to make sure it doesn't smell so much like Bud to prevent him becoming territorial. You can also put tea tree or something strong smelling like (just make sure it's got pig safe ingredients) that on their bums and noses so they basically smell the same to each other, that sometimes helps.

There is a lot of biteing the bars and nose sniffing through the bars tonight when they are out on run should I just leave them to it when they are mounting

Yes as they need to work out who is in charge. Only separate if they get agressive and draw blood.

Most of my guinea pigs chew on the bars, expect maybe a couple, I think that's an attention grabbing kind of thing, rather than them trying to be threatening to each other. More just saying 'I'm here!' or with mine it's usually 'feed me Mummy'.

I'd leave them to it when they are mouting, unless it gets nasty. They will give up eventually. You could also put a soft toy in with them for them to vent their ahem 'frustrations' on.
