After the sad and failed attempt at bonding with little Koki 🌈, I'm happy to say that Bijou is now on his third positive day of bonding with a new friend!

I had been observing several guinea pigs at a store for days. Sadly, they were all in awful conditions, crammed into a wire cage on the street. But among them, only ONE stood out. He was the only one walking upright, nibbling on dry food, drinking water, and peeing. Every time I passed by, he’d come over and lick my finger!

I finally asked the store owner if I could examine him up close. I checked his teeth, eyes, nails, skin, and nose, everything seemed healthy, though he’s clearly very malnourished. And to my relief, he’s a boy!

I brought him home on Friday and took him straight to the vet. He’s mildly anemic but nothing serious, thank goodness! He does have hay mites, so both he and Bijou are starting treatment.

As for the bonding, Bijou and his new friend, Moses, are getting along wonderfully! They seem like a perfect match, showing each other respect and affection. Bijou’s already licked him several times and is being super gentle and attentive. I’m not sure of Moses’s exact age, maybe 1 to 3 months, but he’s full of life: running, screaming happily, lots of talking to Bijou (a great sign!), eating, peeing, and pooping like a healthy little potato.

Fingers crossed it keeps going this well in the coming days!

I couldn't help but share a photo of Bode (Ramses), who is currently alone, he lives next to Bijou!

The boys are very cute. Thank you for saving this poor piggy from a miserable life. He has the chance of a wonderful life now

Thank you everyone ♥️ Little Moses started eating vegetables yesterday, today he devoured everything! he is thriving! 💞 I am extremely positive that the two will be great friends, and little Moses will soon gain weight (he is currently 130g, while bijou is 1kg!) and become healthier every day! Today he has already had some good zoomies!

Bijou is obviously a natural carer, I'm sure Momo is watching him with pride from the rainbow bridge.
That last picture of gorgeous Bode belongs on Boars Galore! 🤣🍒

Awww ♥️ This warms my heart, my little Momo ♥️ I miss him so much… He’s the reason I have all these little piggies now. He changed my life for the better, and he’ll always be my heart piggy 🌈💞

Something really interesting happened on the first day of bonding between Bijou and Moses. Bijou picked up some hay in his mouth and tossed it in front of little Moses. I’m not sure if that’s typical guinea pig behavior, but it definitely supports what you said about Bijou being a natural caregiver!

Bode (Ramses) is the chillest piggy I’ve ever had. I’ve got some great photos to post on Boars Galore, haha! 🍒

Well everyone... this time, I’m giving up on finding a companion for Bijou. Little Moses passed away this morning.

And this time, I can truly say, he was healthy. Yes, he was anemic and very thin, but he was eating, drinking, pooping, running, screaming, and being active just yesterday. This morning, I found him gone. His body was intact, no injuries, no discharge, nothing unusual.

I clean their enclosure every single day, no harmful products. I even wonder if maybe that stressed him out? I put him and Bijou on supervised floor time in a clean, safe space where they couldn’t get into anything harmful. I don’t know what happened. He seemed so okay.

I got him on Friday's afternoon and today's morning he is gone.

It’s becoming traumatic to bring guinea pigs home only to lose them so suddenly. I did everything I could, and still… he’s gone.

I am so so sorry for your sudden loss. He looked so sweet. Thank goodness that you rescued him from his sad situation and gave him company and nourishment before he left you. Bless you little golden Moses.

Thank you, everyone.

If anyone has any idea what might have happened, I’d really like to hear it. The day before, he seemed completely fine, eating, running around, and full of energy. Then the next morning (today), he was gone...

My mom suggested that I try getting a guinea pig from the same town and place where Bijou came from, instead of the city I’m in now. She thinks the ones here might all be too sick or weak.

I’m so sorry to hear baby Moses has left for the rainbow bridge. Sending you massive hugs. ❤️
