My newest guniea pig Gandalf acts like it is the end of the world when I try and pet him. He seems like he doesnt like to be pet or picked up. This sunday I will have had him a week. and I am frustrated with not being able to hold him or pick him up when I need too. My other Guinea pig gilbert was the same way but it only took him a few days to get to the point where he would come to me when I opened the cage. Is there anything I can do to help Gandalf trust me more?

Piggies, like people, have different personalities. Just because one is comfortable with you quickly won’t necessarily follow with your other pig(s).

Have a read of the whispering thread. It’s tried and tested by many on this forum, with very good results.

Understanding Prey Animal Instincts, Guinea Pig Whispering And Cuddling Tips

A week isn’t very long - he’s still settling in and getting used to his new surroundings. Start with hand feeding in the cage, no stroking. If you have to pick him up for a check or whatever, try using a tube, cuddle sack or similar.

Please also remember that most piggies will certainly not be tame and confident in a new environment after only week - your Gilbert really was an exception here.
We have had Harry for over 18 months, and to be honest he still acts like we are going to eat him every time we pick him up!
He isn't a cuddler and certainly rarely comes up to the bars to interact with us.
All piggies are different and Gandalf probably just needs more time to settle.
