Hello! I just have some quick questions for anyone that would be able to answer, one of my mommas just had her babies. Two beautiful little babies. I noticed last night when I had the babies and momma in my room, that the babies would try to squeak but just a little wheeze noise came out instead. Today I checked them again and it's the same thing. They can't squeek! And one was born with 3 fingers and a little nub finger on his right hand :(
is there any reason for this? or known causes for this? Because I always kept mommas cage clean, made sure she had pleanty of food/water, would give her fruits and veggies, tried to avoid anyone touching her belly as to not harm the babies or momma. I was thinking it could be genes from their mom, because the first babies from the bull and a different momma find have this problem.

Oh that's a shame, it could just be because they're young? Otherwise it could very well be a generic thing, a lot of store pigs etc end up inbreeding with brothers/sons and such so it might be that.

Perhaps a vet appointment would be an idea? Poor little mum, at least she doesn't have to have any more babies now!

I just reread your post, you're not breeding them are you? It's pretty dangerous to breed pigs as so many things can go wrong and piggies can die. It takes a massive toll on their bodies.

Also when there are so many piggies in rescues who have been abandoned and need homes it's best not to add to the population. Just to make you aware this is a non-breeding & pro-rescue forum so it doesn't allow/support the breeding of these furbabies.

Hi and welcome

Not all piggies necessarily have got a big wheek, although it is generally more common for piggies to lose theirs as they age. Newborns tend to be more quiet during the first few days when they are at their most vulnerable. If you suspect illness or a congenital problem, please have your piggies vet checked.

How have you come by your babies? Can we please make you are aware that we are a non-breeding non-showing forum rescue friendly pet owners' forum.
