Hi everyone, due to the Coronavirus I decided to buy hay online and because of this I had to get a different brand. My guinea pigs normally eat quite a lot of hay, however since buying the new hay they seem to be eating little to nothing. The new hay looks identical to the old hay and I don’t get how it could taste any different. I’m a bit concerned as hay is such an important part of a guinea pigs diet, but I was wondering could it just be due to the fact that they’re outside a lot at the moment so they‘re eating more grass?

It could be that they’re eating more grass but the hay in fact could taste different to them.
My piggies clearly have preferences to hay and generally eat so much less if it’s not their normal hay

Do you think it will be okay, if they’re eating a lot of grass?

Hi, even before this COVID-19 situation i was looking for a cheaper local brand of hay so they had a few different kinds since the covid-19 situation they have had around 5 different brands of hay because if limitations (whether it’s different brand or different “type” such as added carrots) and my boys love some and “hate” the other but from my experience if your pigs are hungry they will eat it eventually unless their is something wrong with it as in chemicals or mouldy or something. I was worried when i thought they weren’t eating enough hay so i gave them grass everyday and they began to love the new hay just as it ran out - I try to stick to one brand and type but if it not available they’ve got to make do. I would say grass could affect the amount of hay they eat but as long as they are still eating hay even if it’s not as much they should be ok x
