Our little cuddle monster Dragon is neutered (over 6 weeks ago 👍) and ready to look for a lady friend 💖
He’s nearly 2 years old and lives in Fife. I’m in contact with Animal Rescue Centre Arbroath where I got him from originaly but casting the net a little wider to try and increase our chances. If any rescues in the group have an eligible lady becoming available who is 2 or younger; OK with children; Ok to live in a cosy new shed with her new man 🏰 .... I would love to try and make a match within the current Government guidelines.
Question: I’ve seen in the guides that character compatibility is of the upmost importance but will he be OK with just 1 female companion? TIA

PS I am open-minded regarding the age gap.
To be clear, I am looking for a lady friend to join our family, not to rehome our boy 👍

Hi!

The only Scottish rescue currently in operation on our list of recommended good welfare standard rescues is Ayr Guinea Pig Rescue; they will rehome Scotland wide if you can come and pick up any piggies. To my knowledge, they also offer rescue dating so Dragon will only come home with a sow-wife if acceptance has happened. Hutches only do boarding these days.
Unfortunately Scotland is a bit of a desert when it comes to good welfare standard and practice guinea pig rescues. Please keep in mind that anybody can call themselves a rescue or a breeder in this country without licensing or supervision, so the results can sadly be accordingly.
You might check with your local SSPCA branch whether they have a suitable sow or a bonded sow pair.

If I were you, I would leave it open as to rehoming one or two sows. In order to get a working trio, any sow pair needs to be good friends or you will end up with an outsider situation as your boy will have to side with one of the sows sooner or later. I currently have got 6 'husboars' with just one wife and 2 with a couple of sows. It works perfectly well either way, provided that initial acceptance happens.
