Teenage Guinea Pig
Hello
Just to let you know that poor Babs has had to have another operation. She has a history of urinary tract problems and these have normally been helped by antibiotics and Cartrophen anti-inflammatory injections. However, she was really bad this time and kept squealing very loudly and only passing the smallest amount of urine. Also her underneath was very wet. We tried her on Baytril for a few days but that didn't work so my vet decided to take an x-ray as her bladder seemed very swollen. He found a large bladder stone in there and had to operate to remove it. It turned out to be lots of pieces that had clumped together and were blocking the entrance to her bladder - poor Babs. My vet said if he hadn't have removed it she would have had kidney failure in a few days. Phew looks like we caught it at the right time.
She was at the vets all weekend and we were able to bring her home today. She seems very subdued and seems to enjoy lots of cuddles. Her cagemates Boris and Betty seem pleased to have their friend back and I think Babs is pleased to have some piggy company again. I really hope that she will be OK.
Poor Bree also has a urinary tract infection at the moment and that is being treated with antibiotics so I really hope it clears up soon and doesn't turn out to be the same thing as Babs. I don't know - it all happens at once!
