Hi guys, just throwing this out there- reading the news and seeing there are likely going to be food shortages in January re: Brexit. Salad veg most likely to be affected which is what we mainly feed our two piggies for their veg allowance. Anyone else thought what you might do if you can’t get hold of cucumbers, celery lettuce, pepper, etc. As I’m reluctant to move them onto broccoli/cauliflower every day . (We give those a few times a week) along with the occasional carrot etc as a treat.

Doesn’t worry me too much, I will be out foraging daily for lovely grasses, dandelion leaves and a host of other things too. I will be planning my seeds buying with more vigour early next year so the more I can grow myself the better. I am also going to try and buy far more British produce to support our farmers and fishermen. That may mean goodbye to french cheeses and wine

I don't worry about it. There are lots of veg I buy from shops that are already grown in the UK. They put it on the bags where it was grown, especially the lettuce and cucumbers. I'm sure there are farms here in the UK that grows salads too.

Can you give dandelion leaves daily? We keep reading conflicting stuff. We do grow our own but harder in jan. :)
Thanks everyone!

Dandelion isn't a daily thing, but I wouldn't start worrying about possible food shortages just yet.

Clearly a good variety of fresh is great, but your piggies will also be fine if they can't have a full range of veg on a daily basis.
Now might also be the time to explore your local suppliers, farm stores and veg box deliveries who source their things in the UK.

I'm not from the UK, but I vaguely remember someone on the forum ordering "ugly" produce from a supplier. I believe the supplier delivered the ugly produce to your door. That might be a way to still get fresh produce for piggies.

Same here. I often buy from farm store and there's veg shop which only sells UK products. But I expect prices will be higher with less competition from EU sellers.

We do get a veg box as we (and now the piggies ) mainly eat organic, but even some if that come from abroad- I’m more musing as salad veggies are not really UK produce even with the veg boxes. Seasonal veg in the U.K. is often more your starchy veg which we only give as a treat. Though they do like Greens which I believe you can get here most of the year round. Anyway, we continue he search for more local suppliers, thanks everyone! xxxxxx

I'm not too worried, prices may go up a bit but I dont see the logic for shortages really apart from some temporary queues at Dover- I imagine big supermarkets can and will absorb most of the increased cost- and you can always grow grass, coriander, parsley and lettuce indoors in window boxes!
