Is anyone else worried about salad supplies after Brexit or have any tips? Frozen peas?

Not long after I got our guinea pigs, there was flooding in Europe, no lettuce in the supermarkets!

Our garden is postage stamp sized and can't see how it could sustain the piggies for a possible March 2019 crisis.

When is brexit actually going to happen?

If there's a real veggie crisis piggy daddy has a friend with an organic veg farm with polytunnels full of fancy peppers in south wales. I think if we cuddle his alpaca and reindeer friend we might get a few veggies...

Absolutely NOT frozen peas.

I'm not worried about the piggies' veggie supplies. I've seen some products like romaine lettuce that are produced in Lancashire, carrots from Scotland, spring greens and kale from Lincolnshire, etc. We shop at Morrisons and since last year, we've seen an increase of veggie products coming from UK farms. I'm more worried about extreme weather affecting the produce than Brexit.

I'm not worried.
Same: not worried. It’s in the EU’s best interest to create a deal with us, from what I understand the only country blocking us is France but if it’s just France then there’s no reason we can’t walk away with something.

Ive seen huge fields with greenhouses covering the whole lot. Should be ok

I can't imagine how people think we managed for the hundreds of years we weren't in the EU. We have farms in this country you know.

I got my guinea pigs in Nov 2016 and from Dec 2016 to March 2017 my local supermarket was badly affected by salad veg shortages. Sometimes nothing there, sometimes signs saying 1 lettuce per customer. This was due to weather problems in Europe and I think it's understandable that I am wondering if the same will happen in 2019. Could I please have any helpful advice regarding my concerns and not a critical response.

If you’re very worried I would recommend researching local suppliers now as there will be some. With more and more people concerned about organic produce and food miles there are lots of firms offering produce delivered to the door - there may be something relatively near you?

Try asking on local Facebook groups if you have no luck finding anything and you might be surprised.

Thank you. I will look into that.

1. The chances of Brexit happening on 29th March seem quite slim at the moment.
2. Nothing is going to change overnight and it:LL be drawn out for ages.

As Vicki says, blocking imports/exports would not be in our interests or the interests of Europe. If you are concerned maybe have a look for local farm shops. There are usually a fair few around, I've been to quite a few in Leicestershire over the years. It might be a bit pricier but you should still be able to get hold of what you need.
